The Avengers 2 to assemble in the UK in early 2014

04.03.2013

Everyone ready for THE AVENGERS to assemble again? Well it looks like they will be getting the band back together in 2014.

ScreenDaily received the news that the sequel will begin filming in the UK in early 2014. Shooting will take place at Pinewood-Shepperton with production slated to begin later this year. Shepperton Studios was recently the home for THOR: THE DARK WORLD and will soon welcome director James Gunn, who will work on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY there. Gunn has already been getting cozy in the UK for the past couple of months. His instagram posts amuse me.

I wish we had something on the script, but unfortunately the ideas that Joss Whedon is toying with are all being kept under tight wraps. Expect to see everyone back on set including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Renner.

The concept art we go to see today for THOR: THE DARK WORLD, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and even GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY looked quite promising. I hope this means that we have good things ahead of us for THE AVENGERS sequel as well.

This seems really quick to begin production. Maybe I'm a little out of the loop because I haven't seen much posted for Captain America 2 or Thor 2, but will those movies be wrapped by the time Avengers 2 goes into production? I'm really excited to get Marvel Phase 2 up and running. I'm interested to see what the overall plot is for Phase 2, but I'm also interested to see what happens with Iron Man after IM3. Will they continue putting out solo Iron Man movies? Or will IM3 cap the Tony

Or do they take the route of the comics and have Iron Man join Guardians of the Galaxy in their inevitable sequel? The possibilities are endless!

Ugh, it's still so far away when they actually begin filming.

I agree with you on the costume, but totally disagree on Chris Evans. I think he entirely embodies Steve Rogers to a tee.

Chris Evans is not my favorite, he doesn't exude the old timey personality of a man that grew up with the scruples of the 1930/40's, but given my love of the character and the quality of all the marvel movies I can live with him as Cap. What I'm really hoping for is a costume change. The character has always had a very broad shouldered silhouette and the indicision to give him a big helmet/mask made his profile look like a comic-con costume. I feel like they nailed one of the hardest costumes

I feel like they nailed one of the hardest costumes in comics in "the first avenger" and it was a bummer to see them take a step backwards in terms of costume

I agree with the costume. I've took a long hard look at it and I reckon it's the helmet.

The First Avenger costume was pretty bulky anyway, which worked fine. The Avengers costume was very slimline, which is fine when Chris isn't wearing the helmet (as the guy is actually pretty huge) but the second that mask goes on he suddenly looks really gangly and lanky.

It's strange as the colour and shape of the mask and neck are exactly the same as the comic, but it didn't seem such an issue when he was wearing the blue helmet with the brown chinstrap in the original Cap. I think perhaps it's the same problem that the Batman costume has in the last two Batman movies, which is that the material used in the neck works for the actor to be able to turn their heads, but isn't thick enough to stop the massive helmet making the character look a bit like a bobble head.

I respectfully disagree with both of you. Regarding Chris Evans as Captain America, I thought he was great in the solo film as his acting fit with the rest of the acting and everyone was immersed in the 1940's era for the film. However, in the Avengers there wasn't enough time to flesh out the whole man-out-of-time situation. But what they did capture very well was Steve Rogers sense of responsibility and loyalty. Throughout the film, and especially with his interactions with Bruce Banner, he's always sticking up for the little guy and what is the right thing to do. Regardless of the 1940's mentality, that's Captain America through and through. The real test of how they characterize Captain America is in CA2, for that solo film there should be plenty of time to flesh out the man-out-of-time scenario for the character.

Regarding the costume, I personally didn't have a problem with it in Avengers. Granted it was far different than in Captain America. But I get what Whedon was going for in Avengers, he was trying to take exactly what is in the comics and put it on the big screen. Not try to change things to make it look believable to fit in the "real world". So in that sense I thought the costume worked. With the helmet, meh! You're not going to find a guy that has the exact same build as Captain America, so as long as the guy playing him is muscular and fit I'm good with it. So when he has the helmet on, I don't mind of he looks thinner/leaner than with it off. It's still better than the 80's movie when he wore the costume for all of 15 minutes in the film.

Hopefully Hawkeye and Captain America actually get something to do this time around. Thought they were both underused in The Avengers.

Not Captain America. He had a lot to do in The Avengers. But yes, with Hawkeye, he spent almost 3/4 of the movie being the villain. He should have more role to play with.

I agree with Ocelot_Snake. There should be a new Hulk movie, say set the movie after the event of Iron Man 3 and have Hulk bashes out with Iron Man's Hulkbuster suit.

What I really want to see is a new Hulk movie. More shouldve been put to that than a couple of the movies theyre making instead

I'll agree to a certain extent. I would rather see a new hulk film instead of a GOTG film, but I'm really excited to see what Marvel does with an Ant-Man film and Doctor Strange film.

I was thinking about GOTG. Antman I could live without but thats theoretically coming out in the same phase as a Hulk film
