The best CG characters

Jul. 19, 2007by: Ben Barna
Entertainment Weekly's online offshoot, the aptly named EW.com, sure loves its lists, or countdowns, or whatever you want to call them. Today they've sprung one on us, and considering the current state of the film industry, this one is quite appropriate. Put in other terms, this list would not have existed 10 years ago. It's a countdown of their ten favourite fully CGI characters.

I was pretty shocked to see Jar Jar Binks in the top spot, but I suppose whoever compiled the list must have been a huge fan...You just freaked out, didn't you? That was a joke. But admit it, I had you for a second, right? Anyway, the list provides us with little nuggets of cool facts for each character, and when you think about it, the idea that we're even talking about full characters completely realized by machines, it shows you how far movies have come. The Lumire brothers would be rolling in their graves. Check out the list HERE.

Extra Tidbit: The T-rex in JURASSIC PARK is considered to have revolutionized the effects industry.

"The T-rex in JURASSIC PARK is considered to have revolutionized the effects industry."

And still no cgi effect in every other movie looks real and great like that one in Jurassic Park.

And Spiderman3 effects on that list and Jurassic Park not on number 1... well, ya... Davy Jones on 2 is right though. The best "character" (dinosaur is not much of a character anyway) ever so far. When I first saw him I really thought that was a mask or something (and that was the only time I thought

King Kong, Gollum and Co you see miles away they're cgi (still looking great of course!).

King Kong wasn't THAT good looking. Still looked fake to me. Where's Optimus or Megatron? Those fuckers looked REAL.

What About...

WHat about Ang Lee's Hulk which was probably the best CG character ever. It was phenominal looking. And Casper beat out my little buddy Doby from Harry Potter 2, he was the cutest most loveable creature...

I'm one of the fewer people who enjoyed king kong a lot more than others but some of these are too recent and only 4 of those really mattered. Buzz lightyear, t-1000, the t-rex. I mean the sandman? come on, some of these are too recent and simply just look good.

6 out of 10 for ILM. T-rex should have been #1, and Hulk should have been on the list.

Bleh.

Bumblebee should not be on there.
Hulk should be in at around 6 or 7.
Davy Jones should be in the top 50.
Kong should be #3
Gollum should be #2.

Dobby, Shrek, Donkey should definitely not be on this list.

How the hell does Bumblebee, Yoda, and Davy Jones beat out the T-1000!?

T-1000 is a far more memorable character then all three of these put together! This list pisses me off. Thanks for ruining my day :P

The Rex should be #1. I was a Jurassic Park fan before almost everything else..dinosaurs were one of the first things i loved as a kid. But hell yeah, Bumblebee, DJ and Kong all belong on there. Other than those i don't care about any others on the list, with the exception of Buzz and Woody. I do like the first Toy Story.

I think that number one should be comprised of all of the Transformers. Kong wasn't really anything special in my eyes. Capser should have been higher on the list, as with the T-Rex. But I just got one question: where's the Balrog?

Hulk is my favorite CG character. Say what you want about the movie but Hulk was immaculate.
