The boys are back! Warner Bros. greenlights the long-planned Entourage movie

Jan. 30, 2013by: Paul Shirey

The HBO series Entourage ran from 2004-2011 with rumors constantly swirling about the possibility of transitioning to the big screen. After closing up shop and leaving the doors wide open to continue the journey of our favorite Hollywood companions we love to hate and hate to love, series creator Doug Ellin has finally got the green light to direct a feature film of his infamous characters (based on his own script), continuing their story after the cliffhanger-ish ending of its final season.

For those uninitiated, Entourage follows the exploits of Vinnie Chase (Adrian Grenier), an up-and-coming actor and his misfit band of sychophants who follow in his Hollywood wake, soaking in the lifestyle of an A-list star. His brother Johnny (Kevin Dillon), manager Eric "E" Murphy (Kevin Connolly), and loyal follower Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) make up the group, with the epic powerhouse that is Jeremy Piven as Vinnie's manager, Ari Gold. Piven took home 3 Emmy's and a Golden Globe for his performance as the hilarious, venom-spewing superagent.

Deals are coming together for everyone to return, including many of your favorite supporting characters, although story details are still under wraps. No shooting date has been set, but expect this develop quickly. I know there are many who absolutely despise this series and the exorbitant lifestyle it portrays, but I'm of the opposite school of thought. I loved Entourage for all the Hollywood deal-making shenanigans, parties, and personal hijinks the characters constantly toiled with. And, really, even if you hate the show, it's hard not to stand in awe of every scene-chewing performance by Piven.

The prospects of seeing Ari Gold as the head of a studio are too much for me to miss. More as this develops.

And for those who may have forgotten where the series left ol' Ari...

let me guess

The boys have a couple of close calls, but everything works out at the end. Meet at hangar, board private plane, shitty outro track, roll credits.

a movie about a bunch of newly weds? hmm. btw, Ari won't be head of a studio, he'll be president of the company that owns the studio, among others. Ari, Drama, Turtle, and Gary Busey are all I need for them to get my $$ for a ticket to opening night.

Awesome!

Just kidding, this show sucked ass. Mind-numbingly stupid wish fulfillment for wanna be players. They would be insane to budget this any higher than 30 million. This show peaked four years before it ended, and now you want to bring out a movie four years after that? Sounds awesome.

Spoiler?

Not that I can't be surprised and I know there was an intentional cliffhanger at the end of the filnal season, but to me this concept works better as episodic television.

If they make Piven the star role then its worth it. The rest of the characters are meh at best.

Love it

I loved the show and will definitely watch the movie in theaters. Judging by comments below, no one can agree when it went downhill and "should have" ended. One says should have ended season 4, one says 5, one says 6. Personally, I'd still be watching if it were season 10. The show is about a life we all we wished we lived in Hollywood. Nice to get away and dream for a half hour, or in this case, hour and a half.

I'd give anything for the movie to be just focused around Ari.

I loved Entourage. The show was fantastic for five seasons. Sixth was okay because of Piven. Seven was a big drop and eight was awful. The show so fell dramatically that having a movie to really wrap everything up makes me very happy. However, I was a big fan and I'll flock to the theater. The issue is that a lot of people aren't, they won't and this probably won't make a ton of money. For us fans it better be the ending we needed. Besides, it seems like all five actors could really use the

Like everyone else, I think Ari was the best thing about the show. I only got to the end of season 4, but really wished it had finished after the third season. I just found Vince to be a horrible character. I didn't care about him at all. He's pretty much why I stopped watching. I might give the film a chance...maybe...

We'll see...

i LOVED Entourage, but they should have ended it at the end of season 6. Besides Turtle, everyone gets a happy ending. Eric and Sloan, Drama gets a holding deal after his audition, Vinny flies off to shoot another film. Ari makes peace with his nemesis. Lloyd finally gets the promotion he deserves. s7 and s8 were terrible. That shitty Mrs Ari storyline was unwatchable. Are people really going to hit the theaters for an Entourage movie? I loved the show and think it's a bad idea. Why not a tv

p.s. VICTORY!!!

The way this show ended was terrible. They should have ended the show after season 5. Then it would have finished on a high and good note. The only reason I kept watching the last sub par three seasons was because of Ari. Ari alone makes the show watchable. The first early seasons of Entourage were great. I just think they dragged the storylines too long through 8 seasons and wound up ruining all of the characters ending storylines.

I love the show, but I just hope.......

I just hope that they take time in writing the script and not rush it like they rushed the final 2 seasons of the show.
