The Complete Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray gets a release date

03.30.2011

Ever since it was formally announced that the STAR WARS saga would be coming to Blu-ray, all we really knew was that it would be in September of this year. Well now we have a release date so all the uber-hardcore nerds can start camping out.

The Complete STAR WARS Saga hits Blu-ray, in one massive box-set or in separate trilogy box sets, on September 16, 2011.

As a reminder, it'll set you back $139.99 for the Complete Saga or if you want to buy the original or new trilogy, each of those sets are $69.99. Or you could just wait until Lucasfilm does the right thing and gives the original theatrical releases of the original trilogy a Blu-ray release (what you'll be buying here are the CGI-enhanced re-releases from the late-90s).

But I know that logic doesn't always work with STAR WARS fans who are dedicated to the product no matter what. And for that I wish you godspeed and offer you these pre-order links (shameless plug!):

-STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE BOX SET

-STAR WARS: ORIGINAL TRILOGY

-STAR WARS: PREQUEL TRILOGY

i'll stick with the laserdiscs. they're probably the closest thing to high-res copies of the unraped trilogy we'll ever see. and to anybody that says the additions don't ruin the films: have you ever actually seen the films without the additions? the altered tatooine footage has got to be some of the dumbest shit ever made.

I don't get why people complain about Lucas re-releasing Star Wars, like he's the only one who does it. Look at how many versions of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter have been released, along with most other sucessful franchises. Get over it. I, for one, can't wait to see the Star Wars saga in HD!

Would like to see the original trilogy in HD, but somehow I don't care about this release. Star Wars suffered too much in the last couple of years with the Special Edition and the prequels and everything.

This did have a release date. September 27th.

The date was moved up and to a Friday so retailers have an easier time throwing launch events. And Lucas loves his money.

One thing...

The only thing holding me off from getting this is Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi. It's so ridiculous and ugly, and I can't buy a version that has it. Dammit, George!

Preordered the original trilogy for $44.99 on Amazon back in January. Only versions I ever had were on friggin' laser disc, and those technically belong to my Dad. Figured heck w/ it, this set will be the only version I ever own. Lucas's crappy updates and all.

Even though they're added scenes

They're still the exact same kick ass movies we know and love. The two minutes of CGI Jabba certainly doesn't ruin the incredible Death Star sequence, nor does Luke's added scream when he jumps in Empire ruins the haunting moment of Vader's revelation. They're still the same movies; just with extra stuff. It doesn't ruin it for me.

dont wait

He will not release the originals for years to come, bc those arent his movies. His movies are the special editions whether we like it or not, he made them and that how he envisioned them. He will only release the originals years from now if at all. If you look at sales the special editions heavily outsold the originals on DVD. He is a marketing genius he will only give yo the one choice, so if you want to wait 5-7 years for the originals go ahead

I love "Star Wars", but I am not completely sure if I am going to get this.

Like everyone else here, I would rather see Lucas release the trilogy in its original form on Blu-Ray.

I have a bad feeling about this.

You know "that person" who collects every single version of a movie/game to be the Ultimate Fan? Well, that's everybody now.

We're gonna need a bigger boat.

I hate that I'm such a huge Star Wars fan that I will buy this the first day it's available instead of waiting for the original Original Trilogy. Damn you, Lucas.

I want to buy the Star Wars I grew up on.

No CG Jabba, none of that. Until then, I will be watching my VHS originals until they vaporize.

While I am really glad the original trilogy is coming to Blu-ray, I hate the fact that the cover looks like the default title setting for Windows Movie Maker.

In times like these I'm so glad I never switched to Blu-ray cause I know I'd be buying this shit immediately after it's release.

Like most people I will buy this set. However, it is so disheartening that the set doesn't come w/ multiple versions of the original trilogy. The Close Encounters blu-ray gives 3 versions of the film. Same w/ T2. This is ridiculous!

Dissed Again

White I look forward to this BR set we all know he's going to get around to the original classic. Speilberg said the same thing with E.T. when that fixed and said that's it just to go back and re-released the original anyways. Guns went back in and Walkie talkie out. So lucas is going to rob us again.
