The Crow creator wants Sam Witwer for the lead role

02.11.2015

Last month we heard from the Eric Draven to be, Luke Evans, that THE CROW reboot was no longer on his schedule. As was absolutely surprising to no one, nothing was really happening with the picture that's been talked about for years now. F. Javier Gutierrez who was set to direct has walked, leaving relative newcomer Corin Hardy to pick up the directing slack. Creator James O’Barr is still somewhat optimistic about the low-budget reboot hitting screens, and he even has an actor in mind for the lead role: Sam Witwer.

Even if the name doesn't ring a bell, odds are you've seen the fan-favorite actor somewhere before. He entered the Star Wars spotlight for his portrayal of Starkiller in The Force Unleashed videogames, and played Crashdown in Ron Moore's epic Battlestar Galactica. You could also see him playing bit parts in THE MIST and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Witwer himself seemed keen on the idea of playing Draven, even going as far to say that he'd be happy to mow the creator's lawn for the rest of his life for a shot as the lead. Now that's commitment! Hopefully we'll see something concrete on this soon!

Sure

I really liked him on Being Human. He probably isn't bankable enough in the eyes of the studio but I think he would do well in the role.

Why Not

I don't see much of an issue with this casting, he's a good actor who needs an opportunity to prove he's more than a secondary actor. So I say give him a shot he might just surprise us.

I've read the comics and I'm all for them remaking the movie as long as they have a talented director and actor on board

I say get a "Only Lovers Left Alive" reunion going and have Jim Jarmusch and Tom Hiddleston reteam for this. Although my top casting choice would be Cillian Murphy (hands down), I really think that most of the actors attached to the role have been pretty good calls. I've been significantly less impressed with their choice of directors. I'm really glad F. Javier Gutiérrez left because his only feature length film took a cool idea and then executed it in horribly mediocre fashion. If not Jarmusch

If not Jarmusch then I think that Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners), David Michod (Animal Kingdom), and Scott Fank (The Lookout, A Walk Among the Tombstones) are all talented young directors that I could realistically see signing on and doing an awesome job.

Oh relax guys, it's not like casting him would mean that we get a doomsday in our hands.

I like the guy

He always seemed destined for something bigger than bit roles here and there. He was somewhat close, if Frank Darabont wasn't kicked off as show runner of the walking dead. Witwer was the soldier in the tank that Rick runs into in the first season. The rumor for the second (or third?) was to show what happened to that soldier and how he ended up there.

They're still trying to make this movie? Geez, let it die already.

Still think they should go after Tom Hiddleston for this or possibly Alexander Skarsgaard.

I thought they did go after Hiddleston, and nothing came of it.

They're going the right route. Hiddleston's too good for this.
