The Dead Island movie is alive and looking for a director

Aug. 1, 2014by:

It’s been almost four years since we last heard anything about a DEAD ISLAND video game adaptation, but it’s alive again. Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver are looking to bring the role-playing survival game back into development. Great timing too, the sequel to DEAD ISLAND is expected to hit stores in spring 2015.

In the game, an infectious disease turns a resort full of people into zombies and four immune survivors have to track down supplies and find help. It went on to sell over 8 million units worldwide! In 2011Lionsgate got the rights to the game, but nothing ever came of it. The rights went back to the publisher, Deep Silver, and now they’re teaming with the indie production company Occupant (ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE). They hope to start production in 2015.

According to Deadline, the companies are looking for a director with "an innovative take based on either the first game or its sequel, or something in between."

Occupant’s Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino stated:

"We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience."

I’ve never played the game myself, but we all remember the game changing trailer I’ve put below. I don’t know if I can handle another zombie movie right now; this movie would have to be pretty innovative to get my interest.

Does anyone have a director in mind you can suggest to these guys?

Wow. Hadn't seen the trailer til now. The choice should be obvious - whoever was behind the concept of the trailer. I dig most zombie stuff, but I'd like to see something with the emotion of that trailer. Not just awesome zombie kills, which are cool. Just more of a... thoughtful (but I want a better word) take. Not the army, not scientists trying to cure, but a normal family, that sees the horror, experiences the trauma, tries to survive, and realizes this is the end of the world. I

I never saw the impossible, but what I understood of it, something like that. Aspects of this have been done, but I've never seen it sustained. Like a pinch of saving private Ryan, but the characters not being such heroes. If that makes any sense

Whatever

Great trailer, mediocre, glitch filled game. There is potential for a decent movie. I wouldn't base the movie on the game, but on the game trailer...

I was dissapointed in this game too when it came out. I really dont know what a movie would be about, as the game was really only about surviving and fetching. But I wound up giving the game a 2nd chance and its actually not too bad. Definitely not great, but I've played worse. Maybe Ill be wrong about the movie too...

Meh. It had an awesome trailer that had nothing to do with the game itself. The game was very disappointing, and I don't think the game is good enough or popular enough to deserve its own movie
