The dead return in this teaser for ABC's upcoming series Resurrection

Dec. 30, 2013by: Alex Maidy

As many TV shows return after the holidays, so will begin the advertising for the mid-season premieres. What used to be filler series for shows cancelled from the Fall, midseason series have evolved into shorter run shows with higher concepts. Last season we had shows like THE FOLLOWING and HANNIBAL premiere and turn into some of the more entertaining series of the year. This year, one of those is the new show RESURRECTION.

A series about the dead returning to life, RESURRECTION has more in common with the French series THE RETURNED rather than THE WALKING DEAD. In fact, RESURRECTION is based on the novel "The Returned" by Jason Mott. The novel won't be published until the end of March, but the ABC series will premiere at the beginning of the month.

Starring Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Matt Craven, and Frances Fisher, RESURRECTION is a drama with a mystery wrapped around it that should make for compelling television.

The series follows the residents of Arcadia, Missouri, whose lives are upended when their loved ones return from the dead, unaged since their supposed deaths. Among the returned is Jacob Garland, an eight-year-old boy drowned thirty years earlier. Having somehow been found alive in China, he is brought back to America by an immigration agent. His surprise return inspires the local sheriff, whose wife drowned trying to rescue Jacob, to learn more about this mystery.

A longer trailer was shown when the series was first announced earlier in the year, but now we have this perfect teaser that gives you just enough of a hint about the non-zombie series to get you excited for the premiere on March 9, 2014.

so much misinformation thrown around

Resurrection and the book The Returned have nothing in common with the French series beyond the one-liner, just as the French series and the 2004 movie on which it's based, and the Japanese film Yomigaeri from 2002 with the same premise have nothing in common. The ABC series was being developed from the book The Returned long before the French series aired in French in France. The French series is sort of the David Lynch version of the concept (I saw the pilot and thought it was very good) and

The book The Returned was published in August of 2013 and was a New York Times Bestseller. It's available now. Maybe the paperback comes out on in March?

NOT a remake

"The Returned" (French TV show) is based off a French film of the same name. "Resurrection" (American TV show) is based off a novel by Jason Mott (as stated in the article you supposedly just read), which is coincidentally titled "The Returned". The French film and American novel have nothing to do with each other except an eerily similar concept. "Resurrection" is in no way, shape or form a remake of "The Returned". In fact, the creators of "Resurrection" changed its title expressly to

Personally, I loved "The Returned" and am also very much looking forward to "Resurrection", though I'm afraid it will get cancelled like the brilliant and similarly high-concept "Awake".

(Also, Mott's book "The Returned" is available now, not in March. Trust me -- I've already read it.)

Having just finished watching the original French version (best thing I've seen since Breaking Bad), I have absolutely no hope for Resurrection based on other US adaptations of off-shore original material.

Puke

This almost made me throw up in my mouth. If you havent seen Les Revenants (The Returned) watch it immediately as it is one of the best new shows ive seen in a long time. Then watch this awful teaser again and see what I mean. ABC is doing this remake? Really? The returned is easily a hard MA rating, Violence language and Nudity throughout the whole series and now they are making this into a family friendly show? Im soo sick of this shit.
