The Evil Dead will swallow your soul in 2013

12.08.2011

Sony has just confirmed a release date for THE EVIL DEAD- April 12th, 2013. The remake of Sam Raimi's classic film will hit right before the summer movie season and as for now has the date to itself.

As reported, the film will follow the same basic plot as the original- a group of friends heading to a cabin in the woods where they find a Book of the Dead in the basement, stupidly reading it.  The big news for fans of the original is that there will be no character called Ash. There are some far bigger spoilers hanging out on the internet out there for anyone wishing to ruin things...

Filming will take place in New Zealand and is expected to start in March. Keep an eye in the ensuing months for casting announcements. As someone who actually has no problem with this remake at all (Raimi, Tapert and Campbell are handling it!) it's going to be fun watching people's heads explode over the next year and change.

This certainly has the potential to be good if they do it right. Raimi and Tapert hand-picked the director, and their presence is a bit of a consolation, but we'll see.

I suppose this is cool, but I would have rather had a sequel to Army of Darkness (with Bruce Campbell of course).

It won't be anywhere near my soul.

I already don't like remakes, throwing Diablo Cody in just makes me kill-crazy. Change the title so fans of the original don't have to cringe, please.

At this point I hope for the best. Hopfully we can still get a kick ass horror flick out of it. *fingers crossed* *toes crossed* balls crossed*

As I have stated on a previous article: If you feel comfortable with the fact that Tapert, Raimi and Campbell are involved, just remember that we all at one time felt comfortable knowing that Lucas, Spielberg and Ford were involved with Indy 4; and you saw how that turned out. And with all due respect to Tapert, Raimi and Campbell, they don't hold a candle to those three.

And I'm calling it now: They'll go for PG-13

John Landis said it best.

(Paraphrased) "If they do it right, I make a lot of money and I look like a genius. If they fuck it up, I look like a genius for making the original." So what do they have to lose?

Like everyone on this site I hate something as unoriginal as an Evil dead remake and I'd rather see something fresh like... an Evil Dead sequel.

I don't care who's "backing this up"

Raimi, Tapert and Campbell will of course promote the hell out of it; if it's successful, they get more money.
I could be singing a different tune if I see this, but for now I'm still completely opposed to it and only want it to be successful if that means a new installment with Bruce Campbell as Ash can be financed.
