The Fantastic Four, The Secret Service, and Assassin's Creed get new 2015 release dates

11.12.2013

I opened a new savings account just for all of the money I will need to go to the movies in 2015 as three more films cement dates in the already year to end all years. First up is Josh Trank's reboot, THE FANTASTIC FOUR. The film still has not announced any formal cast members but is slated to start shooting soon. Because the movie appears to have as good a chance of any to compete during the summer months, Fox has decided to move the film from March 6, 2015 to June 19, 2015. The decision seems to be more focused on maximizing box office rather than shooting needs.

With that March date vacated, the studio will move Matthew Vaughn's latest comic book movie, THE SECRET SERVICE, from the previously announced November 11, 2014. THE SECRET SERVICE is in the middle of production now so that seems like an odd change. Unless there is trouble on the Mark Millar adaptation, my guess is that it was not quite the right fit for the Holiday movie season and fits better in the slower winter month.

Another movie positioning itself for Summer success is the ASSASSIN'S CREED movie starring Michael Fassbender. Previously set to close the Summer with a August 7, 2015 date, it will now go head to head with THE FANTASTIC FOUR on June 19th that year. Now, assuming both films look fantastic (no pun intended), which would you rather see that weekend? I am leaning towards Fassbender, but I have to see trailers first to decide.

Other release news include announced dates for Paul Feig's follow-up to THE HEAT and BRIDESMAIDS, the comedy SUSAN COOPER, which is slated for May 22, 2015 which will put it head to head with Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND. That one should be an easy choice.

Kellan Lutz' HERCULES: THE LEGEND BEGINS also gets a release date of February 7, 2014 and will beat the Brett Ratner/Dwayne Johnson film HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS to theaters. I will wait on that one and see if The Rock can deliver.

I'm passing on the Fantastic Tweens, why can't Fox just embrace the characters like Marvel has? Make a great movie and the comic lovers will pay to see it more than once in theaters, unlike the general audience who just see it once.

I will see both FF reboot (though I have no hope for it) and AC. If you put a gun to my head and said...no f*cker, I said only one....I would say AC...put the effing guy away dude!

You goofed! FF and Assassin's Creed are NOT opening the same weekend!

June 19th was Assassin's Creed's old release date. Both Fox films, and when Fox moved Fantastic Four to June 19th they moved Assassin's Creed to August 7th, where it won't face any direct competition (at least not yet).

Assassin's Creed.....

.....Not even a close call. I'll probably see FF because I enjoy the genre, but I can't imagine it's going to be any good.

2015 is going to be such an epic year for films and for us fans. Can't wait.

And I would rather see Assassin's Creed over the new Blacktastic Four reboot.

I can only imagine the abundance of executives, in 2015, asking themselves why so many of their big films disappointed at the box office... ugh. Stupidity reigns supreme.

Talk about eggs in one basket, 2015 is going to be [link] is bound to bomb big time, but it'll probably go down as one of the highest generating box office years ever and the tent poles will crowd more screens....I think we'd all prefer quality over quantity, but Hollywood sees otherwise...
