The final trailer for Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity is magnificently chilling

Sep. 4, 2013by: Niki Stephens
The early praise for Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY is raking in early praise and just today we reported James Cameron's tremendous compliment for the film saying it's "the best space film done ever". I'm certainly not doubting him especially after watching the final trailer.

Every time I watch one of these, I feel like I can't breathe and this time I nearly went into full hyperventilation mode. There's something special about a film when just a trailer can creep into your head and make you feel things on a physical level. I want to see this but I'm questioning whether I'll be able to make it through the entire thing without imploding.

I hope Sandra Bullock is ready for her second Best Actress award at this years Oscars.

Synopsis: Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in space.

GRAVITY hits theaters on October 4, 2013.

I would be so much more excited to see this if it wasn't Bullock. Am I the only one who thinks she's awful?

I'm with you. She is the female version of Tom Hanks. Very bland.

Like the premise and certainly Cuaron as director. Just not sold on Bullock carrying this movie. I was already annoyed of her "wailing" and her "ahh ahhh" by the end of this trailer. It's a download for me if consensus reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

TAKING APOLLO 13 AND MAROONED TO ANOTHER LEVEL

I'll check this out for sure. There's definitely a lull in releases up until this is released. Clooney and Bullock look to be a good combination even outside of a rom-com or politically driven vehicle. Two actors out of their usual comfort zone or element and should prove to be interesting. Also, this is a very plausible plot line.

I don't plan on seeing it...

....not b/c i think it'll suck...I just don't think my nerves can handle it. Too nerve-racking, dizzying, for me.

Love Cuarón, love Bullock and this movie will undoubtedly be a hell of ride but after two and a half minutes I'm already very annoyed by her panting and grunting. Hopefully the bulk of it is in the trailer and it won't be so bad. It's kind of like Ryan Gosling's shrieking in The Place Beyond the Pines which inserted too much comedy in the otherwise intense bank robberies.

Most of the movies I watch involve women panting and grunting so it isn't a problem for me.

Oh, looking good!

(I still think they missed a trick by not having a near-term Sandra Bullock in a pregnancy spacesuit and naming the movie 'Gravidy'. Two perils for the price of one!)

There are literally no words to describe how entertaining this looks. How does Sandra Bullock possibly escape that scenario? I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to watch it without becoming physically ill.

Sorry but I'm not sold on this film. She would simply skip into space and be dead. End of story.

dude, this is a movie, if movies were all about reality, i´m guessing 75% of all movies that ever ran on the screen, shouldn´t exist.

movies is about the phantasy, let it go man, let it go, and simply enjoy this beautiful art of entertainment being put in front of you ;)

If anything's going to make the Academy recognize science fiction more, it's probably this. A best visual effects nomination at the very least is almost guaranteed, and I hope it gets nominated in other categories too.

lol...OK, the second thing the trailer says is that there is nothing to carry sound in space, but we can hear the sound of the shuttle being hit.

It does, Miguelito means that we the audience can hear it because the filmmakers chose for us to hear it. It's like when two characters are talking far away from the camera but we can hear them as if they're standing next to it.

Kill Billionair...I was just saying that I find it funny that the trailer says that nothing can be heard in space, but yet we hear the shuttle being destroyed. The trailer shouldn't have said what it said. Obviously the filmmakers wanted us to hear the sound, and I'm fine with that, but the trailer shouldn't have said what it said because it makes no sense since we can hear sound. And I'm not talking about hearing their voices. I thought this would be like Serenity, where nothing can be heard

But it said that sound doesn't "carry", that just means that it's not able to travel. Also that only really applies to "deep space". The action in the movie obviously happens not too far from Earth. So yeah, mentioning that fact in the beginning is kind of pointless. On the other hand Alien's famous tagline wasn't exercised in any of the 4 films either.

The tagline is; In space no one can hear you scream.
Also because sound doesn't "carry" in space. But a tagline is just a tagline. And I think they just put up that fact in the beginning to emphasize that they are completely alone out there with no chance of help.

They're getting ambitious with that font for the titles. That's the font Kubrick used for 2001. This looks good, maybe good enough to measure up to a sacred cow like Kubrick's masterpiece. We'll have to see.

Not really. This is classic Futura, one of the most heavily used Geometric sans-serif typefaces to come out of the 20th century. 2001 uses Gill Sans, a font from the same period, but is more humanist. A dead giveaway is the "S" character. In Futura, the "ends" curve around farther, suggesting more the circles than Gill Sans.

The CGI looks bad, good thing I like space flicks (i.e. Sunshine) or I wouldn't give this movie a try. And of course James Cameron is going to compliment it, Gravity is using the same special effects company as Avatar... Framestore. If they're trying to go for a CGI look as in movies like Vexille, Resident Evil Damnation, Final Fantasy, etc., then I don't mind. But if it is supposed to be live action, I think it looks kind of crapy. It reminds me of the awful special effects scene in Matrix

I am digging the plot, however.

All non animate objects look fine. But Sandra and Clooney(?), the other 'naut, look unreal. Their motion and the texture of their suits look a bit cartoony. It looks like the characters in today's video games. The trailer flashes the scenes rather quickly, maybe it's to hide the quality of the CGI?
