The WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES will be waged on theatre screens beginning next month, and just a few weeks out from the film's release a new trailer has dropped online. The final trailer. I don't find this to be the most effective of the trailers and promos we've seen, but if you're not sold on this WAR by now you're probably not going to be getting on board.

Me, I'm sold, and am very much looking forward to seeing this movie.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he wrote with Mark Bomback, WAR stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Amiah Miller, Gabriel Chavarria, Judy Greer, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Sara Canning, Terry Notary, and Aleks Paunovic.

The final installment in the trilogy that began with RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and continued with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES has the following synopsis:

Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel.  After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.  As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

There are some interesting lines in this trailer, including a moment where Harrelson's Colonel says it's necessary for the humans to abandon their humanity in their fight. One that really stands out to me is "All of human history has led to this moment." That's really true about any given situation, not just a large scale, desperate fight like this WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. No matter what you're doing, all of human history has led to that moment. Just think of that next time you're doing something banal.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES will be released in the US on July 14th. Some countries will be getting it earlier; for example, moviegoers in the UK will be able to see it on July 11th. Some countries will be getting it later. The trailer embedded below is for Australia, which will be getting the movie on July 27th.
