The Flash is without a director as Seth Grahame-Smith leaves the project

04.29.2016

The Flash Seth Grahame-Smith

It seems as though there's trouble brewing in Central City as Warner Bro's upcoming film THE FLASH will have to begin looking for a new director. Seth Grahame-Smith was to have made his feature directorial debut on THE FLASH but THR is reporting that Grahame-Smith has left the project due to, say it with me now, "creative differences." Sigh.

Seth Grahame-Smith's influence won't be entirely absent from THE FLASH however, as Warner Bros. will still be using Grahame-Smith's script which he wrote working off a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE). As THE FLASH's release date is still a ways off, there's plenty of time for Warner Bros. to locate a replacement. THE FLASH will star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, who made a cameo appearance in the recent BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and is in the midst of shooting JUSTICE LEAGUE - PART ONE with Zack Snyder. THE FLASH is set for a March 3, 2018 release. This isn't the first time that a DCEU film has experienced some "creative differences," as Michelle MacLaren bowed out of WONDER WOMAN for the same reason.

Who would you like to see direct THE FLASH?

I'd be lying if I didn't just applaud when I read the title of this. But then again, I'm still bitter they decided on a new Flash for the movies...

He probably wanted some color in there but WB said no, everything has to be really dark.

If only the entire DC universe lost Snyder...

It's really something when a director can make you want to walk out of a theater. When you leave and your head is all red from all the face palming every 5 minutes. Snyder has ruined DC. I don't care about any of these characters anymore. Nobody is going to see these shitty movies now because Snyder set such a low bar, nobody cares and everyone wants a reboot. He couldn't be happy with ruining Superman, he had to ruin Superman AGAIN and bring down Batman and Wonder Woman with him.

I think this is good news on WBs thought process/reaction to BVS. I think they want to go lighter, and need to, and he would've been to dark. Buuut WB will prolly f it up and go to far light hearted.

For a directorial debut I'm surprised they even gave him this project to begin with.

Hollywood's latest trend is giving big budget movies to shitty indie directors or first time directors because they are hired cheap.

More important than money, indie directors are easily manipulated to do what the producers want. Doesn't matter how good their indie work was, they'll be making what shitty product the producers want

Since Synder is the "show runner" for these films perhaps he pushed the guy too far.

Snyder: "I need one important change in this scene."
Grahame-Smith: "Like what"

Snyder: "Here where Flash knocks the thug out an ties him up... Instead lets just have the Flash rip his throat out and say something like 'life is pain' followed by a dream sequence that teases my next film. And make it all CGI"

Grahame-Smith: "I'm out"

SnyderBro: You sure dude, lets go do some crossfit and talk about it, also can the Flash use a weapon too? Like a crossbow or something?

Grahame-Smith: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... ME.

Just please make it someone who understands subtle comedy

The Flash should be the "funniest" movie in the DC Universe. No, not an outright comedy, but something like GotG where it doesn't take itself too seriously until it has to. They're talking about Aquaman being "lighter," but The Flash should be much closer to the TV series where the drama comes from personal issues, and the comedy comes from his exploration of his super-power.

I don't know who I would want to direct except for maybe Phil Lord and Christopher Miller or Edgar Wright after the whole Marvel debacle.

Please not Edgar Wright. I understand that comic fans adore him, but he hasn't made a single successful movie in his life. Can we get someone accomplished to make the next DC movie?

While we're at it, can we please get rid of Zach Snyder before he tanks the entire DC Universe?

Oh praise the Lord that Seth Grahame-Smith dropped out

I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and honestly it was a fun read. But at this point the guy seems like he's really a one trick pony and there's absolutely nothing in his background that makes me think he'd be a competent director (his having written a couple of disastrous screenplays doesn't count).

My pick? Jonathan Levine. The guy gets comedy and he's been *this* close to directing both Dr. Strange and Spider-Man, sounds like he's game to direct a superhero flick and this one feels
