The Flash will head into the multiverse in season two of the CW series

05.19.2015

The season finale of CW's The Flash is set to air tonight and series star Grant Gustin spoke with TV Guide to offer up a tease of what we may see in the show's sophomore season; it's a little something that DC fans may be familiar with: the multiverse.

What's fun about this show is that there's going to be multiple timelines as we move forward, I think we're going to start showing Earth-One and Earth-Two in the near future. There will be kind of different dimensions going on.

While Earth-One and Earth-Two are only several of the many alternate worlds that populate the DC multiverse, it definitely opens up a lot of possibilities for a show that has already started to play with the timeline in big ways. Series co-star Carlos Valdés also teased that we're likely to be in for a bit of a complicated timeline when The Flash returns this fall:

It gets a little Rubik’s Cube-y in terms of keeping consistency between all these timelines and whatnot, but the writers have their stuff together. If I were to trust anyone, it would be them.

Bigger comic fans than I will be able to theorize what these developments will bring about but it seems that The Flash will show no signs of slowing down during season two.The season finale, titled Fast Enough, airs tonight and Grant Gustin teased that Barry's trip to the past "doesn't necessarily go as planned." Ruh oh. Make sure to check back later for Lauren Bradshaw's review of the season finale.

A multiverse is what DC needs to make sense of it's many cinematic iterations.
If Flash could run into a Superman who looks a lot like his universes Atom/Ray Palmer, that'd be just lovely.

I can imagine him coming to the current movie DC universe as a lightning bolt that hit Ezra Miller's ass and turn him into that universe's Flash.

What would also be cool is seeing them encounter other movie DC universes. Imagine a Michael Keaton cameo! Hey, we got Mark Hamill, why not? :D

I'll be the lone voice of discontent.....

I know I'll be the only one saying this, so here goes....The one thing I hate the most about Arrow is the constant crutch of those lame flashbacks (that not only are distracting, but are obviously made up after the character arcs were already written). So now they're going to take the best, most tightly written comic book show (not including Daredevil) and add the equivalent of flashbacks in an "alternate universe" that can be used to do crazy things because we all know the writers will just

So now they're going to take the best, most tightly written comic book show (not including Daredevil) and add the equivalent of flashbacks in an "alternate universe" that can be used to do crazy things because we all know the writers will just get rid of it when it becomes too much. It will take away time from the storytelling, and make the entire show convoluted. That and you're taking a show that has already lost a significant amount of viewers from the premier (and just now seems to be generating that kind of buzz again) and you're going to introduce something that you know many of the average viewers won't like. If the show starts to drop viewership, it could completely change what they are able to do and the stories they are able to tell.

I see some cool "tricks" they can do with showing episodes they immediately can say didn't really happen, but it will negatively impact the quality of the stories that matter.

I somewhat agree with your comment. Flashbacks on Arrow season 1 and 2 were good while season 3's flashbacks were completely irrelevant to the Arrow show.

I agree that the flashbacks on Arrow have become pointless and a distraction from the main story being told. But why are you jumping to the conclusion that the use of the Multiverse is going to be used in the same way as flashbacks on Arrow? From the description above, I inferred that the show's main stories would take Barry into alternate dimensions/timelines. And his journey there would be the main story, not a secondary story. I think you jumped to a really random conclusion with your

If the storyline is that Barry will become trapped in an alternate universe while closing the wormhole and the start of the next season will be him trying to get home (not to mention Cisco/Vibe trying to find him and help), then I agree it could be really cool. If the story is going to be dual universes where thy look into what his choice (and Eddie's) has created and it becomes a regular part of the series, then I think it will suck. In the end, I agree with Teal'c....."This universe is the

Love how the show has really expanded on and opened up the DC Universe that Arrow had already established in a much more scientific way. One of the better, and more entertaining aspects of the show.

Hopefully Legends of Tomorrow follows suit.

This makes me even more excited for not only tonight's episode, but for next season as well.
