The full 3 minute trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. looks as good as any of the Marvel movies

May. 14, 2013by: Alex Maidy

After rolling out some short teasers, ABC formally premiered the full 3 minute trailer for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and it looks pretty damn good. On display are Joss Whedon's trademark banter as well as the return of Agent Coulson. Regardless of whether the show looked like garbage or not it was going to premiere, but this actually looks like a quality show. It definitely capitalizes on THE AVENGERS and should definitely whet some appetites for Phase Two movies and beyond.

Watching the trailer, I definitely had deja vu thinking that this looks like a cross between FRINGE and the Marvel universe, which is a good thing. The cast, including Ming Na (still looking good at age 49) and several newcomers may quickly become one of my new favorite shows. Check out the kick ass full trailer below.

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvelís feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulsonís team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. will have so much room to play with that we may not notice none of the major heroes aren't on screen, but that doesn't rule it out. The showrunners can easily draft dozens of minor characters from Marvel or come up with new ones. Depending on popularity, who knows how far the crossovers between big and small screen could go. The possibilities with this one are through the roof.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. will air Tuesdays at 8pm EST this Fall on ABC.

Extra Tidbit: That first line about what S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for was gold!

Do you remember...

There used to be a time when Marvel characters like Thor and Daredevil made guest appearances on The Incredible Hulk and "B" movie Captain America films ran on Saturday night. For the late 70s and early 80s, they were "OK", but you could tell that no one was treating the characters with any reverence to the mythology. Finally and for the first time ever, Marvel has their own studio, has their sh!t together, has solid leadership & direction and there are people still b!tching about it. Get over

This is what we all wanted and now we're criticizing them for wanting to make money? WTF? I really don't understand what we have to complain about.

dear whiners

"this looks cheap" or "Is anyone else out there tired of Marvel trying to soak in every dime possible?"
First, that look is intentionally. Second, No. who cares if they put their brand on the great pyramids, as long as they keep turning out quality, shut your mouth. i mean, what do you have to complain about? you didnt like IM3? awww poor baby. go back to watching the CW and their half assed attempts at comic series.and if you never saw the DC animated movie Batman: Year One, that pretty much

Yeah I didn't like IM3, and even worse IM2 - so why should I go back to watching something else? I want to watch these things and give them a chance. Some will suck, some won't. Get over yourself

Please don't out last Arrested Development's original 3 season run. My opinion.

"From Joss Whedon. The Director of............wait for it.........wait for it............Marvel's The Avengers by Marvel." Ummm duh?
Is anyone else out there tired of Marvel trying to soak in every dime possible? They're just as bad as Lucasfilms. Phase 1 was fun and cool for most of the films. Phase 2 is not doing anything for me. At least DC isn't releasing The Dark Knight TV series "The Chronicles of Commissioner Gordon". Or did I just give DC an idea?

DC/WB toyed with adapting Gotham Central for TV, and that would have been awesome. It was killed because Birds of Prey flopped.

Also, way to ALREADY disregard Phase 2. After one movie.

llen. I'm not disregarding Phase 2 because of one movie. In fact I really ENJOYED Iron Man 3, I liked it more than The Avengers. Iron Man 3 actually had more substance and was a good breakaway from the routine structure of previous Marvel films. I just realized after seeing Iron Man 3 that I am beginning to get tired of all these Marvel superhero films, one right after the other. Also, Marvel doesn't seem to understand that seeing all these characters together in The Avengers was so cool that I

I'm not against the Marvel superhero universe, I do think Marvel needs to slow down before they really over do things, like have a spin off TV show.

Can't do anything right on tv...

The first shot of that horrible model of the city was the best looking effect in the promo somehow. This looks like pure crap.

Just so you know that "horrible shot" of the model city that you are complaining about is not a shot of a model at all. It's called a tilt-shift shot (although I imagine this one was probably done digitally in post) which is where they purposefully give a full size shot a shallow depth of field and a blur which makes what you're shooting look like a miniature. A good example of this technique being used would be the rowing scene from the Social Network. Not that it would stop you from

I've been waiting for Clark Gregg to get his own starring role since I first saw him in The West Wing as a Secret Service agent (who, come to think of it, looked and sounded just like Agent Coulson...hmm).

In a design and editing standpoint- this trailer is a mess. But I'm hopeful for the series itself.

Judgment reserved until I see the series.

I'm guessing Marvel is going to use this series as another way to introduce second tier Avengers into the next Avengers movie(s) so that Marvel has a bargaining chip with some cheaper actors in case Downey, Hemsworth, Evans et al don't want to play ball. This would give second tier Avengers or other superheroes enough of a backstory for fans that they won't necessarily require the full exposition (and expense) of their own movie.

But on the plus side, Joss Whedon. And Phil Coulson.

Its looking pretty good. I just hope it doesn't turn in to some kind of quirky x-files. It'll be interesting how often they encounter 'special' people and what they do with them, or will they just forget about em and move on to something else each episode. Perhaps this will also be a way to introduce heroes like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch who have been rumored to be in future phase films. I certainly hope they have some mutants in there, but I dunno how they'd handle it, mutants weren't

"The world is filling up with people who can't be matched. People who can't be controlled"
--NIck Fury

"SHIELD monitors all potential threats"
--Black Widow

That's two quotes from the Avengers movie that suggests that mutants exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Right, because you can't AT ALL count on the success of Marvel at the movies. And without THAT (stupidly) it can only last as long as, oh, let's say HEROES, which (despite not having a tie in to mega BILLION dollar movies) lasted FOUR seasons.

Get your head out of your ass.

It looks very good, but.....

but it seems like a show that will only last 3 seasons or so. I just think the ratings will fall, not that it won't be good. There's always hope though.

This is going to be fantastic. The show looks great and captures the same tone that are in the Marvel films.

I would love to see some foreshadowing in the show that leads up to events in the phase two or phase three films. Or maybe SHIELD does something terrible in the show that the Avengers have to fix in the films. This show can go in so many directions.

Oh the possiblity

This looks like it can be a good show. I would like it if they can utilize some of the smaller assets of the marvel universe. They could use some of the minor villains like the wrecking crew or serpent society. I don't know if marvel has the rights to the King Pin but he would be a cool mega villain running the goons behind the scenes.
