The full Insidious trailer brings the spooky

Feb. 17, 2011by: Mike Sampson

I've been jonesing to see INSIDIOUS since Chris Bumbray came back raving from its premiere at the Toronto Film Fest. I've heard nothing but good things about it and I'll be checking it out in just a few weeks at SXSW. If you haven't heard, the film is directed by SAW vet James Wan and follows "a family who shortly after moving discover that dark spirits have possessed their home and that their son has inexplicably fallen into a coma. Trying to escape the haunting and save their son, they move again only to discover that it was not their house that was haunted..."

While the film doesn't open wide until April 1st, you can check out the brand new trailer here. It may be a little spoiler-y for people who like to keep their ghost stories as fresh as possible but not knowing much about the movie, I'm not sure how much of what we're seeing here is integral to the plot. Check out the new trailer below...

A focus on supernatural horror

It seems like Hollywood is finally turning away from the torture-porn stuff, and moving back to the realm of supernatural horror. I couldn't be happier.

I'm not getting my hopes up, in spite of that trailer not looking bad. And no article featuring the words "SAW vet" will ever get me excited.

The trailer looks good

But a lot of crappy scary movies look good as trailers. The cast seems good, so I'm hopeful, but I don't want to proclaim this will be awesome, based on a heavily edited trailer. Neutral for now, but hopeful. I also can't remember the last time I saw a movie that actually scared me.

This is what im talking about!

This looks like a good horror film and i loved the first Saw and from this trailer i can tell this is going to be good. It will make probably 50-70 mil when it opens and studios will immediately demand a second lets hope that there is no sequel though well i guess it depends on the ending of course.

I saw at the Toronto Film Fest and I can say that it is an impressive horror film. Rough around the edges (filming and dialogue-wise), to be sure, and the last act veers a little too far into campy territory (though it's somewhat intentional), but it more than delivers on the haunted house scares. It's also a very different beast from a film like The Orphanage - this flick is a lot meaner, grimier, and kind of goes for an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach. It's definitely going for a

It's definitely going for a more B-movie vibe - it was the perfect Midnight Madness movie.

We saw this the night after we saw John Carpenter's The Ward, and this blew Carpenter's film out of the water. I say this all as someone who is a big fan of Carpenter and was not a fan of James Wan or the Saw series before.

I'm torn. Early word on this has been great but the trailer, while effective, also displays plot elements we just saw in Paranormal Activity 2 and earlier films like Orphanage and Fragile. So I will see it and reserve judgement till then. The film may pack surprises the trailer won't show. And even if it's derivative in story, it still could be a spooky good time. We'll soon see.

As a huge fan of Horror i can say that over the last 2 decades i cant name too many movies of the genre that are worth remembering. There are some, of course....this looks like it might be one of them. I could be dead wrong, but at least it has promise...will it live up to it? Let's find out.
