The full trailer for A Deadly Adoption is hilariously serious

Last week, we got our first tease of the Will Ferrell/Kristen Wiig Lifetime original movie A DEADLY ADOPTION. It was hard to tell if it was going to be a satire like their IFC mini-series THE SPOILS OF BABYLON or something different. While it is still hard to tell in the new trailer if the movie will be tongue-in-cheek or not, it definitely looks different.

A DEADLY ADOPTION looks like a remake of THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE but with a psychotic pregnant woman instead of a psychotic nanny as the antagonist. From the trailer we can tell that Will Ferrell's character somehow wronged young Jessica Lowndes and now she is out to destroy his family. Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell have both done dramatic work in their careers, but I still have a feeling that in context the dialogue and rationale behind the character actions in this movie are going to be ridiculous.

The premiere of A DEADLY ADOPTION is set to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Lifetime network. While it is definitely not the channel I normally tune to, I definitely admire the fact they went for a project this ridiculous to celebrate their big anniversary.

A DEADLY ADOPTION premieres June 20, 2015.

Meh

Wig isn't bad, but Ferrell...hang it up man. He's trying to ride on an idea Kaufman tried back in the 70s and what Jim Carrey tried as well and it stinks. Their comedy is hit or miss and 70% of the time its a miss. Seen it.

This is satire, look closely at the details and remember it's Ferrell and Wiig.

When the nanny rips the cover of the U.S. Finance magazine and the ripped section with Kristen Wiig drops (in crappy slow motion) to the floor and it reads "Nance" that told me this thing is satire. We've seen Ferrell do drama, "Stranger Than Fiction", even when he shows up as the father in "The Lego Movie", this is Ferrell comically pretending to be serious. A comic rip-off of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, The Crush, and all other films where some young girl goes bat shit nuts on a rich

A comic rip-off of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, The Crush, and all other films where some young girl goes bat shit nuts on a rich white suburban family, there are plenty of these films and TV shows out there. Remember it's Ferrell and Wiig, if it was one without the other I would say it's not a satire. Too rising comedy stars in a made for TV movie where the story is one which has been repetitively many times. It looks funny.

Might be the first Lifetime movie I will ever watch. My mom is a sucker for these movies though, but one with Will Ferrell seems like a golden opportunity I can't miss.

Don't count on this being a comedy. Will Ferrell is a nut for Lifetime movies.

Why are people still doubting that it's a comedy?

"Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig star in a Lifetime movie" should be enough proof. Have you forgotten about AIRPLANE? The directors told the actors* to play it straight, and THAT is why it was funny. The problem is that spoofs have been more popular than parodies, so people assume parodies have to constantly wink at the audience too**. This movie doesn't look different from THE CABIN IN THE WOODS.

*They actually casted actors known mainly for dramas.
**Assuming people know the difference

I wouldn't hold my breath that this would be ridiculous in the way you think it will be. I firmly believe this is a put-on by Ferrell and Wiig, but that doesn't mean it's going to be funny in any way but a so-bad-it's-good way. They both look to be playing this insanely straight. I can already see the reactions where people call it unfunny and formulaic and what were they thinking. I think this is a practical joke that will be played completely straight if only for the entertainment of its

I also think Lifetime is looking at getting some of their highest ratings ever. And that alone is why it's slotted for their 25th anniversary.

"From the trailer we can tell that Will Ferrell's character somehow wronged young Jessica Lowndes"

guess one of our interpretation skills needs some work. I took it as shes become obsessed and infatuated with him and will do whatever it takes to be with him.
