The gang's all here in the new international poster for Captain America

Jun. 30, 2011by: Mike Sampson

Marketing CAPTAIN AMERICA to international audiences is a tricky task as "America, F*ck Yeah!" sentiments aren't exactly at an all-time high overseas. But CAPTAIN AMERICA is what it is and you can't really hide too much (the dude has an American flag on his shield...).

So this new international poster for CAPTAIN AMERICA isn't quite as patriotic as the last US poster, but it does a quality job of selling the film. It's also bringing the whole gang - Red Skull, Bucky, Peggy, Col. Phillips, hell even Dum Dum Dugan makes an appearance.

Take a look below (you can click to head to the Poster Palace for a slightly larger look) and let us know what you think...

Ehh

Don't like the colours. Makes it look very cartoonish

Also, it bugs me that they use the Iron Man and Thor logos. The Thor posters just had "Iron Man" in normal print.

This is a pretty shitty poster IMO. Where the hell is Struzan when you need him, this would have been perfect in his hands!

He retired in 2008. A lot of old-school illustrators had to bail now that any hack who thinks they can handle Photoshop can design a poster.

No mask on the poster, then. They seem to be avoiding showing him looking like Captain America on the posters. I know they want Evans' face out there, but is he really a bigger deal than the character he's playing? I still think the first teaser poster is the best one they've come up with so far.

Photoshop

I am not saying it is a bad poster, but Chris Evan's head does look very photoshopped onto his body.

I, too prefer Drew Struzan than any CGI-Wizard, but I actually like this one! This is my kind of photoshopped poster!

Yeah it's alright.

Exit Question: Why do all International Posters look like they were made in the 80's?

FUUUUUUUUUCK YOU!

I don't see a kid or a fanboy wanting a poster of the Captain America movie up where the main character doesn't wear the mask. Who's this for? Fans of Cellular? Even if it were Tom Cruise you'd still have him with the mask, but that's not the point. The point is this is fucking dumb.

I'm guessing that their not using the mask because they want more woman to go see this movie. I've noticed that the trailers have been playing up the "hunk" appeal as well. They've already got the fanboys so their trying to broaden the appeal, they did the same thing with THOR.

Could you imagine them doing an Iron Man poster without the mask on?

Sort it out Marvel.

AHaha yes, turns out they actually did.

I can't wait to see Christian Bale's face plastered all over next year's Dark Knight Returns posters.

The Mask

His face in acclaimed retro poster didn't have the mask, just the smaller image of him hitting Hitler.

And yet, no hate....

He does have the mask in the "retro" poster where he's punching Hitler.
Can't you go look before you say something???

I understand the "mask" issue. But it's a simple marketing, well, thing.
Batman and Spider-Man are way easier to sell as EVERYBODY and their mothers know who they are. Captain America (even Iron Man) not as much.
The studios know that we the fanboys are going but they have to sell the movie to the people who "need to" see who is under the mask. Because some of you might not know this but a lot of people only go see movies when they know (in the easiest way possible) who is playing in it, most

If anyone here has ever taken marketing classes you would know that they teach you to sell things in the dumbest most obviously easiest way possible.
But all that said, I too would like more mask!
(but hey some of my friends (girls) keep telling me Cap needs not only less mask but less shirt on the posters, so who knows!)

To be honest...

I'm not sure how Europeans will really take this movie or it's character(s). I mean with the whole WWII setting and all, a lot of Europe may find this to be down right appalling as I'm sure that's how some feel about Captain America to begin with...especially older Europeans that have been alive since WWII, they may take this as a slap in the face. I dunno, just sayin'.

I could see your point, a smidge. However, you must remember that Cap was brought to light in the middle of WWII and was pictured in that magazine beating the Hell out of the Nazis, Italians and Japanese. We can't hide from history.

I wouldn't underestimate the love for the Avengers overseas

Really all things comic bookish. Let's also not forget that Cap is one of the oldest superheroes and has more of a following Worldwide than you might think - especially after Brubaker's excellent run and treatment of the character. I think it will do quite well, maybe even Thor like overseas.

I agree, Struzan would have been PERFECT for a Cap poster!

I like this poster, but not as much as the one where Cap punches Hitler. For some reason I like posters and cover art when you could see the bad guy's eyes looming over everything.

A quick few seconds on Photoshop

Sorry about the shoddy quality, but the only photos with a masked cap I could find were really really dark, anyway, a general idea of what this would look like if the mask was included, looks better if you squint a bit:

I think the idea of this poster is cool but I think something like this should be done in the Drew Stuzan style. The other propaganda style poster is still the best one.

Neither was IRON MAN, but I don't think thats what he was talking about. They don't use Hulk in the marketing because that movie was actually produced by Universal, not MARVEL STUDIOS so they can't say "From the studio that brought you HULK" because its not from the same studio.
