The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo gets a clothing optional poster

06.01.2011

You've seen the red band and green band trailers for it, but now have your look at a new international poster for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, one I believe is the first for the film unless I missed something.

A while back we wrote an article that said David Fincher wanted Rooney Mara topless on the poster for the film, and here we see that dream realized, albeit with some cover via letters and/or airbrushing. Seriously, I can't figure out where her nipple is even supposed to be.

I can't imagine that this image will be suitable enough for delicate American eyes, as bare female torsos are apparently only appropriate overseas. Check out the poster below, and click to see it bigger over at the Pimpin Poster Palace.

Extra Tidbit: I think the difference is that Noomi Rapace looked kind of goth-hot. Rooney Mara just looks pretty goth-weird.

Im looking forward to this film, mainly because of Fincher and because it can be dark.

Extra tidbit: Reading the book, I never got the impression Salander was any sort of attractive, so I think its okay they went that way with the American adaptation.

So how is a nonsexual entity like Lisbeth supposed to be depicted as sexual? My cock is getting mixed signals. Stoopid.

I'm definitely interested, but being a bit cautious. I just hope these are handled the right way and aren't marketed toward the trendy, "Hot Topic" crowd.

Honestly your extra tidbit thought nailed my thought exactly. I watched the trailer and noticed that as well. i just really like the original trilogy and cant see any american female actress eing able to fill Roomis shoes. Plus do we really need an english version of a swedish book. thats proposterous if you ask me.

Kinda bland & they at least have to have a poster of her back dragon tattoo, hello thats the title of the movie. Looks like this version is going more for the gothic look then the punk look the swedish films had. Still liking the way its turning out so far though & only Fincher can pull this off since the swedish movies are so good.

Actually that's the title of the book in America only, so the tatoo doesn't matter as much in France where the title is "The men who didn't like women"
The whole thing is known as the Millennium trilogy there

The poster is okay. I'm excited to see Fincher's take on the books. Hate if you want, but I don't understand the ferocity with which the original adaptions are being defended. Noomi Rapace was great, but I think she was the only stand out in a string of mediocre book adaptions. The movies weren't in the same league as Let the Right One In, so bring on the Hollywood versions!

I'm conflicted

I really don't see how anything could be done better than the original three films, from acting to music, but everything I've seen so far has impressed me. I think it will be like the Let Me In thing, where it is almost like a good play you see in New York and then in London with a new company- The story is the same but the cast is different, so it all comes down to which you personally prefer

I'll say it again...

This movie is supposed to be AGAINST the exploitation of women...yet look at the marketing campaign.

My thinking is that it is supposed to show Lisbeth as fearless, but it going to bee seen as exploitation, I agree

I think the BOOKS are supposed to be...

Movies are about making cash. I'd expect any marketing material to further those goals.

It's a Good Poster...

... It's not a great poster but it is a good one. They showed her nipple in the red band trailer so why block it out on the poster? Rooney Mara does look more hardcore than Noomi Rapace did. Can't wait for this one though. Looks great.

I've loved everything I've seen for this movie so far. It's just how I imagined it when I read the book.
