The Golden Globes nominations are here! The Artist leads the way with 6 noms

Dec. 15, 2011by: Mike Sampson

The nominations for the 69th Annual Golden Globes were announced earlier this morning by Sofia Vergara, Gerarad Butler, Rashida Jones and Woody Harrelson. Leading the pack with six nominations was THE ARTIST followed closely by THE DESCENDANTS, THE HELP and Madonna's W.E.? Yes, that should show you how suspect the Golden Globes really are. They fell unusually in love with THE IDES OF MARCH, a so-so film, and nominated Ryan Gosling twice for acting awards but never for his best performance of the year (in DRIVE).

THE HELP did very well with three total acting noms for its cast and HUGO was a surprise addition to the Best Picture race. While DRAGON TATTOO scored nominations for Rooney Mara and Trent Reznor, the film and director David Fincher weren't nominated.

Below we have a list of all the film-related nominations but for the full list including all the TV noms, click here to head to the official Globes nomination page.

Christopher Plummer is nominated for Beginners not Girl With A Dragon Tattoo. Come on, is it that hard to just copy and paste ? Get your shit together. This is amateurish.

Hmm ... people liked Transformers 3, does it mean it deserves any nomination ? Don't think so. So because you like Anonymous and you haven't seen anything else this year, doesn't mean that crap movie deserves anything.

So you've seen the movie and disliked it... doesn't mean it DOESN'T deserve something... I mean... you've seen it, right ?
And TF3 deserve an SFX nomination, you're damn right about that. And about the "haven't' seen anything else" part, I see between 5 and 15 movies a week, thank you very much for your concerns about my cultural life.

What?!

Surely Monica Bellucci, Salma Hayek, Sofia Vergara and Halle Berry were nominated for their "Golden Globes"?

Oh....wrong Golden Globes.

Also, if we listened to you guys, there would be 17 nominees in each category. I can understand the disappointment over Drive not being nominated, but Warrior ... calm the fuck down.

These things become ...

goofier each year, but I'll go on record and say I'm a big Chris Cornell fan and happy to see his song "The Keeper" from Machine Gun Preacher got nominated. I saw his live acoustic set a couple weeks ago in Pittsburgh and the dude still has THE voice.

I thought Ides of March was so-so, too. Great performances, but after seeing the depth of politics in HBO's The Wire, IOM seems like a young adult novel compared to it.

Some of these are definitely questionable, but I wouldn't call The Ides of March "so-so." It was outstanding.

I have always hated the Foreign Press Association. It's a bunch of elitist pricks that think they know something about film. This year is no different.

Best Comedy/Musical BRIDESMAIDS? REALLY? I vowed never to watch this show again 3 years ago, I intend to keep that promise for a lifetime (or until public interest wanes to such an extent that there is no money to be made in broadcasting it anymore).

The Artist actually got six nominations (Best Picture - Musical/Comedy, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, and Score).

The only real surprises were seeing The Help and The Ides of March get nominated for Best Drama. I thought it would be The Tree of Life and/or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo instead. Also surprised to see My Week with Marilyn over Win Win and The Muppets, both of which got better reviews. Doesn't really matter though since The Artist has a lock on the

It's strange that this won't be any kind of indicator for the Best Picture Oscar since The Artist is separated from its actual competition. Guess we'll have to wait for the Producers Guild awards to get a better indicator.

You guys really taking Golden Globes seriously?

All it is is a cash cow and an excuse to get all these people in the same room for NBC.

This was solidified last years when this happened:

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Johnny Depp
Alice in Wonderland

Johnny Depp
The Tourist

Paul Giamatti
Barney's Version

Jake Gyllenhaal
Love and Other Drugs

Kevin Spacey
Casino Jack

Johnny Depp..seriously? Alice and Tourist.. oh wait lets add this into the mix..

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Anne

It's been an odd year I feel. Then again I'll know more at year's end what to think of movies like The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and War Horse. Hugo and The Descendants were both wonderful films. Moneyball was okay. Good script, good performances, but was Jonah Hill really such a revelation? I cut the Globes some slack because they have to fill twice as many Best Picture/Actor categories. Ryan Gosling was the right man for Drive, but that doesn't mean he gave the kind of performance judges

Glad The Artist is getting attention, and glad Brendan Gleason snagged a nom for The Guard, as he was phenomenal. Let it be said that Viola Davis was the best thing about The Help. And Bryce Dallas Howard was better than Jessica Chastain (I know they really wanna give her an award for being in every damn movie this year).

No DRIVE?!

You'd think that movie failed to be anything but a mix of elements from GTA, Death Proof and The Transporter, pointlessly done up in faux-artsy flourishes, and that the film's failing to derive a single conventional satisfaction had just been misinterpreted as inspired by a portion of audience members caught up on being in the little club of liking something the rest of the world was rightfully indifferent to. I swear you could just jump to that conclusion.

I think they mean Crazy, Stupid, Love.. but the lack of Drive is concerning as I feel it deserves recognition. I am however happy with Hugo and the Ides of March getting some love as they were two of my favorite from this year. But again, many "iffy" nominee's imo.

However...

I'm very disappointed that both DRIVE and WARRIOR have been snubbed for Best Picture, Best Director as well as acting nods. They deserve top spots far more than MONEYBALL and THE HELP.
