Not too long ago we shared with you some of the projects that director Joe Carnahan (THE GREY, THE A-TEAM, NARC) is gearing up to do, but now another has come down the pipeline which sounds rather interesting. I think. See, Carnahan has been hired by studios MGM and Paramount to write and direct a remake of the 1974 movie DEATH WISH, a movie that starred Charles Bronson as the ultimate no-nonsense vigilante and spawned four sequels. The movie has officially been called a reboot, and will be further financed by Scott Free, the company owned by Tony and Ridley Scott.

"An MGM spokeswoman and a Carnahan representative did not immediately have a comment" says the report, but there it is.  "According to a person familiar with the project who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about it publicly," there is a pretty good chance that Carnahan is doing DEATH WISH as one of his next projects.  And by the way, you should go see the original if you haven't already. The run time isn't too bad, it's a lean and mean re-telling of the conflict between "justice" and "the justice system," and you get to see a young Jeff Goldblum be one nasty piece of work.  Which are all good things in my book.

A plot synopsis for the original DEATH WISH: "[Bronson stars as] Paul Kersey, a liberal architect who morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. Bronson's character then undertakes a one-man mission to hurt and kill a host of criminals on the streets of New York."

Extra Tidbit: Carnahan has already talked about reuniting with Liam Neeson on other projects - should they do so for this one too? Or would you go with someone more... unexpected?
