The Grudge is the latest horror franchise to get a reboot

Aug. 30, 2011by:

As we've seen with SPIDER-MAN, the spool down times for a series to qualify to be able to be rebooted is getting shorter and shorter, and now, a mere seven years after the American version of the film came out, THE GRUDGE is said to be boarding the reboot train.

The news comes from Bloody Disgusting who claims that after Ghost House scrapped plans for a fourth GRUDGE film (the second one was in theaters, the third on DVD), they're just rebooting the entire series for a new look at the franchise.

Whether this makes it to theaters is the question. I would think a reboot would imply that would be the case, but won't people be a bit confused when they see THE GRUDGE in theaters again?

I for one would love to see the series die. The Japanese version might have been worthwhile, but the American remake is one of the most supremely awful horror films I've ever seen, and I doubt anything productive could be done with the same story again.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think we'll ever see an American version of Battle Royale, Suicide Club or Audition?

I, for one, would rather just see a DVD release of the ORIGINAL original film from Japan. See...

The director put out a short film, 'Ju-On.' Then he made it into a longer movie: 'Ju-On: The Grudge.' Then came the American remake, which he directed himself: 'The Grudge.' Same process happened for the first sequel(s).

As for a reboot of a remake of a sequel of a remake of a sequel of a remake of a...etc. etc.? Nah. I'll pass.

This is supremely unnecessary. As for that tidbit, PLEASE don't give them anymore ideas.

You know, it's articles like these that would make me love to see California capsize and sink into the ocean like in 2012.

I don't even know what Hollywood means by 'reboot' these days. Sometimes it's a reboot, sometimes it's a remake, other times it's something else entirely, like a sandwich.

battle royale remake?

if hunger games does really well, i can see them pushing a battle royale remake. but they'd prob butcher it a bit.

It really is strange the window of time for reboots now, but so what, no one is forcing me to see it or support it

Cant this series just die. I think we should reboot The Dark Knight Rises. Or maybe Captain America or something - remember that came out a while ago!

If you called this The Grudge 4 or a grudge reboot, I bet most people wouldn't know the difference. Fewer people would actually care.

That movie was so dissapointing. Not one positive thing about it. The 'Friday the 13th' remake was good and was hoping it actually got a sequel that us fans were promised early on after the remake was released.

Battle Royale would only get the remake treatment in America if they have 20-somethings playing the children...Blah...I think we are the only country out there with no guts when it comes to risky or shocking entertainment. Asia (namely Japan and Korea)gets it right, so does the french on occasion...everything that even remotely shocks here becomes PC or is rather light when compared to our overseas filmmaker friends...too touchy here...

I wonder if they will hire the same director to reboot his remake of his film?

WTF! Who were the guys sitting around that decided that THE GRUDGE was worth time and money to reboot? I cant imagine anybody is going to care to see this movie....now if there was a 20+ gap since the first one, ok then you got a point, but come on!

Another pointless reboot to a weak series to begin with, as for the tidbit, there is no way any hollywood studio will greenlite suicide club, the train sequence alone gives me chills, and no one would touch audition but its kinda like a more graphic version of misery to me, and yes we have Hunger Games for Battle royale

The Hunger Games is sorta similar to Battle Royale in a lot of ways, so maybe that will count as the American version of that.

You know what really needs a remake? Season of the Witch. It is so outdated.

I haven't seen the second or third movie, but I've seen the first and I wasn't impressed. I agree this trend of Asian remakes should die.

Unbelievable... The american remake is not even 10 years and they remake it already. Tell me... WHERE THE FUCK ARE WE GOING with this reboot madness? I will not be part of it. Never. Fuck Hollywood, there, I said it.
