The guys behind Skyline will next be bringing us battling historical figures with War of the Ages

Mar. 28, 2011by:

While the Strause Brothers' sci-fi invasion film SKYLINE was a movie best enjoyed while not sober, their new directorial effort WAR OF THE AGES ironically sounds like something you'd come up with while high as f*ck.

In a recent interview with MovieWeb while promoting the home video release of SKYLINE, Colin and Greg Strause divulged a little bit of information on what will be their big 3D epic:

"War of the Ages is going to be the next news item. Basically, an ancient artifact is uncovered, time is shattered and the seven greatest war leaders in history have to battle each other out. It's sort of like The Lord of the Rings meets Gladiator. You have Napoleon vs. Julius Caesar vs. Attila the Hun vs. Genghis Khan vs. Alexander vs. Hannibal. So, there you go. It's going to be in 3D and it's a big sword-and-sandal epic."

The brothers then revealed that they'll be using the same pitching tactic to sell WAR OF THE AGES as they did with SKYLINE:

"We just finished up the script and we have just finished the trailer we shot for it. It's sort of the same way we did Skyline, except this is a much, much bigger film. In Skyline, we shot a 90-second trailer to get everybody excited about the movie before we sold it. We're kind of following in the same footsteps, but learning from the experience and pushing forward."

Back in October, The Strause Brothers spoke exclusively to our boys over at AITH about how they already had a treatment all lined up for SKYLINE 2. The first film supposedly only cost $10 million, and despite being completely terrible, it still managed to make just under $70 million worldwide at the box office. Whether that means SKYLINE 2 will be next and then WAR OF THE AGES remains to be seen.
Extra Tidbit: Good idea, bro! *bubbling bong sounds*

No one in their right mind that paid to see Skyline would pay to see Skyline 2. They got my money once but NEVER again. No studio is going to fund anything these morons produce from here on out simply because of the shear awfulness of Skyline. Studio execs aren't idiots.

I say pair them up with uwe boll and syfi channel production company for the ultimate quadfecta of horrible movie making. Who knows it may at least be a movie worth watching on cable while wasted late at night.

Why are these guys still being given the opportunity to go into a large amount of theaters. The studios should be demanding they the produce something quality. This idea sounds great, but in their hands, it just sounds like another excuse to do some flashy fx. They need to prove they can direct actors and write a decent script.

Even though it sounds like a scene out of Night at the Museum, I'll still probably see it. Im a sucker for historical elements.

Skyline 2 please

I would love to see a Skyline sequel. It's really a fun movie and the ending was awesome. At the very least I hope I get to read a script as to what they had in mind for the second one.

I think this sounds interesting. I watched "Skyline" last night and enjoyed the hell out of it. Sure, it had its flaws (Donald Fasion's character supporting the stereotype), but I enjoyed it for what it was. The effects were cool, the look of the aliens was different in a good way, and I loved the "WTF?" ending.

I would be open to a sequel.

The strause brothers are a prime example of why fx guys and actual storytellers are two totally different things...

they have straight to dvd written all over them. it's just a matter of time.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure will no doubt have done a better job of bringing together historical figures than whatever pigshit schlockfest the Strause brothers are cooking up.

1. It sounds stupid as hell.
2. It's not even a very original idea.
3. The Strause brothers suck.

Didn't someone already announce a movie of Deadliest Warrior was in development? Sounds like this will be steppin' on their toes.

Fool me once, shame on you...

fool me twice, damn you Strause brothers.

After successfully making a worse film than AVP, and dooping me with false hope of Skyline actually being some form of redemption. I will happily boycott anything these guys direct, unless a flurry of positive reviews proves otherwise (with the above plot, I can see that day being a long way off).

Hmmmm

They really could have picked out some better historical armies to duke it out, some that would have made this plot look a lot better.

April Fool's? Probably not.

Also, this plot has been done plenty before. The Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends episode satiated me. Perhaps, the Strause Brothers should make an educational video game of War of Ages. That might be good.

BTW, I see that John Matrix posted the same suspicion. Let Schmoeville hope.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Good one Joblo!

Oh, it's not April yet...

Am I the only one who thinks these two bozos have the potential to become the next Uwe Boll?

This sounds horrible...

...and knowing these two are behind it makes it an even worse idea. Seriously, the plot sounds like a shitty Star Trek TOS plot (in fact, I think it IS). They should go back to CG work exclusively, or at least get some actual talent involved in their film making process beyond "WE CAN DO EFFECTS ON THE CHEAP!"
