The Hateful Eight Begins Shooting entirely in Colorado this December

We have known for some time that Quentin Tarantino’s next feature THE HATEFUL EIGHT was on still track again after the director decided not to let the trolls who leaked his script win. Whether you have read it or not doesn’t really matter, the movie is thankfully happening earlier than most thought, and also, it sounds amazing. It’s being reported that the film will shoot entirely outside of Telluride, Colorado including interior and exteriors shots. They plan on shooting starting on December 8 2014. Time certainly heals all wounds doesn’t it?

The Denver Post talked about the shoot:

The film’s Colorado budget includes $15.7 million for payroll, including a Colorado crew of 168, and $9.35 million in other in-state spending, including lodging. The state rebate of $5 million represents 20 percent of that spending. Prep work should begin early next month with shooting expected to start on Dec. 8 at the Schmid Ranch, on Wilson Mesa 10 miles west of Telluride.

The crew would be housed in Telluride and take a break over the Christmas holiday. The nearly 900-acre, high-mesa ranch, homesteaded in 1882, is under a conservation easement, which will require that the land be returned to its original state after filming is completed.

They also point out that this will be the state’s biggest production since the 1969 version of TRUE GRIT! While the full cast has yet to be announced, so far we know that Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, and Samuel L. Jackson are attached to the bloody western. There is also the rumor of Jennifer Lawrence and Viggo Mortensen being up roles. I’m already excited for what is sure to be a great time in the theater; the new QT film will be an event as usual.
