The Host 2 update

06.25.2008
Bong Joon-hos monster masterpiece THE HOST (aka GWOEMUL) became a solid hit, and since then we've been hearing rumblings of a follow-up to the family drama/fright flick.

Now comes the official word -- a sequel is coming, and it's a co-production between Korean production company Chungeorahm and China's Stone Man Films. The $12 million project will be written and directed by China's Ning Hao, who made his mark with CRAZY STONE, a madcap caper action-comedy done with lots of style and not much money.

We had initially heard that Korean comic artist Kang Full was writing a prequel to THE HOST, involving the excavation of an ancient waterway called the Cheonggye Stream and featuring multiple beasts. That no longer seems to be the case -- the new movie is apparently a straight sequel that concerns "a calamity caused when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money."
Extra Tidbit: THE HOST star Song Kang-ho has more genre movies on the way -- he appears in Kim Ji-woon's kooky Western THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE WEIRD and Park Chan-wook's vampire film THIRST.

You say that this piece of shit, AVP, was better than The host? It just proves that your precious "years of moviegoing experience" over us (not sure about that by the way) doesn't preserve you from being totally WRONG and condescending. No need to come back on this thread, I think we got your...pointless point.

P.S.: Song Kang-ho also was in Bong Joon-ho's masterpiece, Memories of murder [link]. Do yourself a favour and buy the DVD (even though the region 1 DVD's cover is not very pretty).

Rivals with Seven... Even though the trailer is 100% serious, believe in me, there are moments in it that are funny as hell!

well, granted...avp was no classic, but it was waaayyyyy better than this fish story, that for damn sure. alien movies trump fish by most peoples tastes. but i defend your right to have your opinion (however wrong it is, ha ha). to each his own, i just have years of moviegoing experience over you, thats all. hell, some people even liked the first hulk film.

I'm actually in a way glad they aren't doing a prequel. Usually all prequels do is take away the mystery of the premise. And since it's promised to be bigger (as befits a sequel) all drama will be intact.

Now here's hoping it doesn't turn into a rehash of the original. That, by the way, is what I have against sequels.

The first one was soooo amazing. So even if they accidentally screw a sequel up, the first one still rocks.

I loved the first one. But i really liked the prequel idea, so i hope it turns out to be as good as the first. I should go see Crazy stone so i have an idea of his talents.

Heres to hoping they do as good a job as they did on the first one. i actually have Crazy Stone to watch this weekend so hopefully it'll give a good idea of the director's style.

Ning Hao

I saw CRAZY STONE (with live translation by my wife) a year or so ago, and I must say, the dude had like 500.000$ to make it, and it looked awesome! I'm sure he'll pull this off.
