The revolution begins! The Hunger Games: Catching Fire teaser trailer arrives

Apr. 15, 2013by:

Picking up right where the first film left off, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins with the Victory tour of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) who have seemingly inspired rebellion amongst the people of Panem, which sets off a series of events that will eventually put them, along with new "gamers," back into the arena. The new  teaser trailer gives a nice set up of how they get to that point, but doesn't reveal anything of the actual games themselves. For once, a teaser trailer does just that: tease.

Get in on the revolution:

Looks pretty good overall. The cold gray style seems to have survived the directing chair shift from Gary Ross to Francis Lawrence, keeping things consistent, if anything. Personally, I'm not chomping at the bit, but that doesn't mean much as I'm hardly the demographic. This is absolutely primed to make a slaying at the box office this year, regardless.

Here's the official synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Clafin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Amanda Plummer, Jeffrey Wright, and Alan Ritchson, continues the love triangle of death marathon on November 22, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Does this stoke the fires of excitement or are you still feeling the same about the sequel?

I really enjoyed the first movie, but I know books 2 & 3 are not very interesting. Let's hope the writers and the director transform them to solid movies.

Hopeful, oddly enough...

Considering what a dungpile the 2nd and 3rd books were, I really expected nothing good out of this movie. However, it appears that the script writers may have decided to fix parts of the book to make this more palatable. If so, I'm hopeful that this won't suck as much as it could.

This looks good for what it is, but I'm still not interested in this series. I wouldn't see them in the theater anyway. Maybe when I have kids I'll watch them.

I liked the first one, just watched it again to validate that in-fact. Not the best thing in the world but a decent popcorn flick with some solid performances and good pacing. I won't rush to the theaters, but I won't avoid them either.

I just noticed that anyone saying anything negative about these movies gets nailed with negatives by everyone. You must all be tween girls because they would be the only ones to say that first movie was good. Let me guess your favorite part was when the dude painted his body like the rocks to hide?

Think again [link] "While a majority of the audience for The Hunger Games were women (61 percent), the fact that it did have some appeal to men as well surely helped it get as high as it did...The Hunger Games audience also skewed slightly older (56 percent were 25 years of age and up), and they awarded the movie a strong 'A' CinemaScore."

Looks legit

The movie is better than the book imo, which is vanilla, drab and un-involving. I don't know how else to describe it other than I felt like I was reading a book the whole time if you catch my drift. The movie actually contains better world building and Lawrence actually makes Katniss an interesting character, something she is not in the book. Looking forward to this.

That was a mighty long teaser trailer! And it took a nod from the trailer from the first movie; where what we saw is really only the first maybe 40 minutes of the movie...way more action to follow.

The cold grey look from the districts aside, it definitely looks better than the first one, which I thought looked and felt cheap.

Seriously, the first movie is one of the most mediocre, and dull adaptations of a book I've ever seen.

All right.

I was surprised by the first movie. The build up for the games was great, but somehow the final scenes fell short. Not saying it was bad, but I was expecting something better. I will check this one out. Too much talent involved.
And J. Lawrence has been working out I see.

Looks good, will check it out

I liked Gary Ross' take on character, but he couldn't direct action scenes, Hopefully, Francis Lawrence does a better job there.
While we're at it, I'm also fed up with people comparing Hunger Games to Battle Royale in the hopes that the blogosphere will think them intelligent. To quote Susan Domus of the New York Times: ". . . there are enough possible sources for the plot line that the two authors might well have hit on the same basic setup independently."

Speaking of retarded teens, I notice you don't have the ability to punctuate or capitalize properly. Hypocrite much?

Looks good

I was pleasantly surprised by the first film. I had never read the book and liked what Ross did with it.

against my nature

this kind of young adult fare usuaally bores my balls off and to tell the truth, the first book was losing me until the Games. this second novel took a while to warm up too but if you read even the wiki article, youd see this is a bit different than "Battle Royale Lite".. and yes, Hoffman and Sutherland make it look easy. maybe thats beacuse they aretwo of the best actors from the last 50 years of film having some fun playing YA novel villains. they arent even going to break a sweat but still

philalva77+2 - I don't understand the comparisons with Twilight...but based on just the movie...you can't see why people compare it to Battle Royale???

Well I can actually get the Battle Royale one, but it's just been blown so out of proportion that you can't help but get sick of hearing about it.

Was there a touch of the 28 Days Later theme in that music...or was it just me? The trailer looks good and sets a much darker tone...which, for me, is great...since the first was simply a horrifically toned down version of Battle Royale.

That was a good trailer & doesn't give away too much really as far as the main story. On another note people need to stop trying to be "cool" about hating on these movies, who have obviously never even read the books & buy into the comparisons to Twilight or Battle Royale.

Catching Fire was the best book in the series and this looks to capture it pretty damn well.

No

Not again. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Donald Sutherland look bored. This hardly looks good. More like forced teen melodrama. They are also burying this in November, rather than put it up against some of the bigger blockbusters this year. I will skip this one.

I'm liking the darker tone of this film alot more than the friendlier tone of the first.

Now, can we FINALLY stop it with the Battle Royale comparisons? I think this looks amazing, and as someone who has read the book, the trailer doesn't even reveal the meat of the story! Great things, teasers that build up intrigue and curiosity rather than spoiling the entire film. Unfortunately, this article does reveal the plot twist.

I agree that they did a fine job of teasing the meat of the actual story with this....kudos to the teaser writer for holding back.
