The Impossible director J.A. Bayona confirmed to take on Jurassic World 2

It took all of one weekend for Universal to announce that audiences would be getting a sequel to JURASSIC WORLD, but now we finally know who will be directing it! JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow is staying on board to help write and produce the flick, but he announced today, along with Frank Marshall, that J.A. Bayona is the man who will be calling the shots behind the camera!

Bayona was quick to make a name for himself with two very compelling flicks, THE ORPHANAGE and THE IMPOSSIBLE, before moving to to make A MONSTER CALLS, which hits theaters October 14th of this year. As with Trevorrow, it looks as though Universal's primary concern was to find someone who could help build rich and compelling characters to interact with our dinosaurs. Given Bayona's filmography, he's arguably more qualified than Trevorrow to helm a film of this nature.

There's been a lot of rumors surrounding the story, but all we know for sure is that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be reprising their roles, respectively. Now that we're (hopefully) moving away from the theme park formula established in the original, I'd say there's more than enough room to bring back Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm, wouldn't you say?

JURASSIC WORLD 2 will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.

I hope the Margarita Man character will be more essential to the plot this time. :D
As for the first Jurassic Park movie cast, I dunno. The first Jurassic World kind of retconned Lost World and III as to have never existed, so they probably won't be the same characters they were on either two movies.

Solid choice. Would love to see Goldblum return in some capacity.

Big win for Universal.

Bayona makes great films. But like fat womanizer said, it all depends on if the studio allows him to work creatively. If they want their fingerprints all over this, then this is a step down for Bayona.

Down vote me if you want...

But this guy is a much, much better director than Colin Trevorrow.

Title!

I'm pumped for this and all, but why are they calling it JURASSIC WORLD 2? I know that's not the official title, but shouldn't they refer to this movie as JURASSIC PARK 5?

Never seen a movie by him but everyone seems to like him so that's good news. Jurassic World was a fun movie for me. Jurassic Park is my top movie and I thought it was a good reboot.

Really didn't like Jurassic World but this guy makes great movies. I just hope the studio execs allow him to do his thing (which they probably won't)

It's funny, before hand, I had little excitement for a follow-up to Jurassic World give how overrated I felt the film was, but now with a more talented eye in the director's chair, I'm now excited.

Would be nice to see Grant and Malcolm again, But I highly doubt their characters would want to go back any of those islands for the rest of their lives.
