The JoBlo Sunday Night Movie Chat: Batman

07.15.2012

This week, we put two amazing Spider-Man themed chats into the rear view mirror as we welcome another superhero into the fold. Since The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters next week, I figured I'd use this week's Chat to kick off three straight weeks of Batman chats! What better place to start than one of the most beloved Batman flicks of all time. This week, we discuss the 1989 Tim Burton masterpiece, Batman!

Since last October, yours truly has been hosting The JoBlo Sunday Night Movie Chat every Sunday night at 7pm EST. We've discussed many great flicks including The Avengers, Spider-Man, Ghostbusters and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's a great chance to discuss flicks with your fellow schmoes live. Maybe even learn a thing or two from your fellow schmoes about the movies you love.

All you need to do is head to OUR CHATROOM at 7pm EST and make sure to log in with your MFC username. Come prepared with talking points or questions, or feel free to lurk and and see what everyone else is discussing. The regulars are extremely friendly people that will definitely make you feel welcome.

I still remember the day I saw Batman in the theater. That was an experience that has rarely been rivaled. This was the Batman of my childhood and even today it still holds up amazingly well. All of the performances are fantastic, particularly Jack Nicholson. The gothic atmosphere was creepy as hell. And Danny Elfman's mind-blowing score is still one of my all time favorite film scores. All around, this is just an amazing movie that has so many aspects to discuss! So go ahead and join us this and every Sunday at 7pm EST at Movie Fan Central!

Extra Tidbit: Michael Keaton is still my favorite Batman.

I'm sorry, but the film sucks. And Nicholson was a crappy Joker. He just played himself, but added a laugh.

Crappy? Well, you seemingly just don´t get/like Burton´s approach. He created his atmospheric world with the costumes, the sets, lighting and so on, while Nolan transported the Batman myth into the "real world". Well, I like the fairy tale like tone more and find it more fitting for a universe being populated by characters like Batman, Joker, Scarecrow, Catwoman etc. I for myself can´t say how much the Joker was based on Nicholson persona but he was great in his role. Nuff said.
