The JoBlo Sunday Night Movie Chat: The Expendables!

This week's chat is dedicated to what was easily my favorite movie from 2010. A super violent blockbuster that was a love letter to the action movies I grew up on, The Expendables is one of the most fun times I've ever had at a theater. So needless to say, I'm expecting a hell of a fun time in this week's JoBlo Sunday Night Movie Chat!

Since last October, yours truly has been hosting The JoBlo Sunday Night Movie Chat every Sunday night at 7pm EST. We've discussed many great flicks including Aliens, Die Hard, The Big Lebowski and Cloverfield. It's a great opportunity to discuss flicks with your fellow schmoes live. Opinions will be shared. Thoughts will be provoked. Fun will be had by all.

All you need to do is head to OUR CHATROOM at 7pm EST and make sure to log in with your MFC username. Come prepared with talking points or questions, or feel free to lurk and and see what everyone else is discussing. The regulars are extremely friendly people that will definitely make you feel welcome. And believe me, they are very, very cool schmoes.

And please remember this. Be respectful of others and their opinions during the chat. It's great to have multiple opinions of movies in the chat. I love that. What I don't love is for people to be insulted or badmouthed about their opinions. Directly insulting someone will not be put up with.

I grew up on the action movies of the 80's and early 90's, so needless to say The Expendables was easily one of my most anticipated movies of all time. From the who's who cast of action stars, to the over the top action scenes, to Hale Caesar's INSANELY AWESOME shotgun, this movie is just pure fun! So strap up and join us this and every Sunday at 7pm EST at Movie Fan Central!

If the first movie didn't have the star power that it did, it would've gone straight to dvd. The story was pretty average and it was your run of the mill action movie. BUT! Sly and co, made it great just by seeing all these guys together. Story gets thrown out the window and all you have to do is sit back, watch and enjoy the action.
I have no doubt the 2nd will be even better, mainly because Sly isn't directing and can focus on his role. Plus the expanded roles of Schwarzenegger and Willis,

that's the problem, it probably would have but it shouldn't have. In the 80s, 90s and even early 2000s movies like this were in the theatres every month it seemed and they were successful. Now unfortunately the audience just isn't there and most action flicks can't even get the budgets they need to be good enough to be in the theatre. A shame, action movies should be in the theatre, and all these rom coms should be going straight to dvd. Unfortunately today's mass audience demands the audience.

Really?

I was hugely disappointed by this film - but I'm really looking forward to the sequel! EX2 looks to be everything the first film should have been: more of the 80s movie stars & tongue-in-cheek 80s action!
