The Jurassic World team offer their congratulations to The Force Awakens

12.21.2015

I'm sure you all know by now that STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has brought in a few handfuls of change at the box-office as well as breaking all sorts of records. Our own Dave Davis has already broken it down in his Weekend Box Office Report, but one of the records STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS broke was the highest domestic opening record previously held by JURASSIC WORLD. Over the three-day weekend, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS made $247.9 million (bringing the worldwide total to $524.9 million) which easily surpassed JURASSIC WORLD's $208.8 million.

What's all this leading to? Well, Frank Marshall, executive-producer of JURASSIC WORLD, took to Twitter to congratulate the STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS team with a rather cute image.

I always enjoy these sort of friendly well wishes shared between "rivals", and this isn't the first time that the Star Wars franchise has received such congratulations; Steven Spielberg sent George Lucas a similar note when STAR WARS surpassed JAWS as the highest-grossing film of all time back in 1977. As JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow is set to helm STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, he may very well have the chance to take the record back.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is currently in theaters and will likely break a few more records before its time is done.

Steven is the king it seems

Episode 9 will SURELY have dino-esque creatures in it, either as the army of the big bad, or ewok type creatures. Maybe Rey can teach raptors with the force

Great work! the difference here is everyone's expecting SW to break records, but nobody expected JW to be so big. I really enjoyed both movies, and IMO both movies are very much like a reboot of the first film of each saga.

Not to nit-pick, but weird the writer didn't make mention that the Cast/Crew of these films are definitely playing a game of Pay it Forward. Remember when Marvel sent out a congratulations to Jurassic World after they beat them for biggest opening, now Jurassic World is doing the same for Force Awakens. Glad to see all the studios playing nice in the same sandbox.

It's nice to see that other people watch the global totals. Imagine if Star Wars opened in China. You could probably add $100 million, give or take.

I read on another site that after more countries added up their totals, Star Wars had the biggest global opening.

At least it deserves it. Jurassic World I will never understand how it made more than Avengers 1 when it was a weaker film than Avengers 2.

It's easy, @Jay Beezy. Kids who like dinosaurs outnumbered grown men who read comic books.

Star Wars is a Disney property now, so kids are overstuffed with a lot of merchandising and data from SW. So part of the big numbers of SW are also "kids who like dinosaurs" lol
PS... only F4 is weaker than AV2.

By F4, you mean Fant4stic? No way. AV2 at least tries to develop its characters, succeeding and failing in some regards. JW gives us no reason to give a crap about any human character. Are we supposed to care about the kids surviving so they can go home and watch their parents get divorced?

And only F4 is weaker? What about TG? That pathetic excuse for a reboot is in all ways inferior. Pedestrian level action directing, convoluted and nonsensical time travel logic for the sake of plot
