The Justice League movie can now legally aim for a 2015 release date

Oct. 18, 2012by: Alex Maidy

Warner Bros won a major court case on Wednesday that allows them the right to use the Superman character in both MAN OF STEEL and future film projects. This means that WB is now fast-tracking their JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

The court case was fairly complex, but here is the skinny (Thanks to SlashFilm): In 1992 Jean Peavy, the sister of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, signed an agreement allowing Warner Bros. to have rights to the character. Years later, that agreement was called into question and one judge even ruled against it. And so it went until, finally, a judge ruled the 1992 agreement was binding and now Warner Bros. controls the rights to Superman after 2013.

If the case had gone any other way, JUSTICE LEAGUE would have been Superman free and that is a shitty JUSTICE LEAGUE. Now, the search for writers and directors is going to move into overdrive, which is not a good thing. Sure, I would love to have a world where both THE AVENGERS 2 and JUSTICE LEAGUE are released in the same year, but I would rather have Warner Bros and DC take their time and develop the team in the same way Marvel did. At this point you have an untested MAN OF STEEL opening next year and that is it. All other members of the team would either need to be introduced or rebooted in the movie. That would mean we wouldn't see the new Batman or Green Lantern until after 2015.

DC's universe is pretty mediocre in movie terms compared to Marvel. There just have not been as many successes that can easily be rolled into this new team. Let MAN OF STEEL open, then work hard on planning out the big screen debuts of these other heroes before making JUSTICE LEAGUE.

I doubt they will take that advice. Expect to see JUSTICE LEAGUE in theaters in two years. We will report as soon as writers and directors are announced.

Extra Tidbit: Who would you like to see write and direct JUSTICE LEAGUE?

The only MARVEL movie I really liked was CAPTAIN AMERICA (and Ang Lees HULK, but it`s not the same Hulk), and I liked THE AVENGERS anyway. So I don`t think is necesary to introduce all the superheroes in a lot of boring movies in the next few years. Just give me a good JLA movie, ala AVENGERS. Use the new Superman, and even the guy from ARROW (I like the tv show). Use Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern and a new Batman. We all know the story behind FLASH, WONDER WOMAN, AQUAMAN, so give us the

well they sorta...

tird it in with DKR, there was a headline in the batcave which said "man seen flying". It is rumored that WW will also have a mention in MoS. GL was shit, so they can do anything with that, they can have Hal be assigned to a galaxy far far away and have Reynolds come back to play Flash (he's so many superheroes any way). Arrow is on tv that guy is as good as any. dunno bout manhunter, he could be anyone. But this movie is gonna be 5 hours long or shitty as fuck because it's just too many

I'm a bigger DC fan than a Marvel guy so on one hand I'm ecstatic. On the other hand I'm terrified of this sucking and then the public opinion of the Justice League is tarnished forever. Here's hoping DC/WB has a hidden game plan that they're not telling us and once all the pieces come together I can breath a sigh of relief. I still say Alfonso Cuaron would be the best choice for a director.

The JLA Will Win

Currently, this news has a forty percent approval in the Strikebacks. However, really, we can have great faith in WB's plans. I intend to enjoy this Justice League in 2015. One, WB makes great films. They have made great Superman and Batman films. They make great films generally. Two, the general public knows and loves Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman already. Everyone would love to see adventures of Superman and everybody before 2015. But, the JL roster does

Everyone would love to see adventures of Superman and everybody before 2015. But, the JL roster does not require introductory movies. Heck, the general public might know Green Arrow, the Atom, and Hawkman too. Three, superhero movies do not require origin stories necessarily. Marvel plans to skip origin stories in many of its future projects. Over at Fox, X-Men was a success long before First Class or Origins: Wolverine. Why Hell, the Wolverine origin movie even hurt the franchise arguably, LOL. As this article points out, the Justice League movie itself can introduce the characters, and we can learn more about them later.

And four, the JL movie will include the Wonder Twins surely. . . . . Oh no, I don't mean THOSE two boobs and a monkey. I mean that the Wonder Woman costume will surely show cleavage. And, as a nerd of nerds, I'm willing to wait three years to see that or those, FTW! Have faith. The Justice League movie is happening finally. And, it will rock.

I love comics...I love comic book films. I pray that Man of Steel will give us just a hint that there's a world full of super powered beings. Perhaps a newspaper that blows across the street during some action scene where we briefly see the headline "Themyscira ambassador to attend UN meeting"...or perhaps refer to a historic meeting with the King of Atlantis...though it needn't be an in your face reference.

With regard to Green Lantern...sure the movie sucked but lets please not reboot

With regard to Green Lantern...sure the movie sucked but lets please not reboot this...just make a better follow up that further (properly) introduces us to the idea of Green Lantern not being the only superhero...perhaps introduce us to a certain green Martian as well. Have the reboot of Batman be mainly about a one off story but a sub plot about how a mere mortal can be an integral part of a super powered group (have our certain green Martian play a role in this sub plot perhaps observing just how amazing the Batman is - may be make the Manhunter a Nick Fury type of character - the guy who thinks a Justice League is needed). Now I'm getting greedy...but try and squeeze in a Flash and Wonder Woman movie in too they are simply too big to just slap in to a Justice League movie without prior introduction...then hit us with the Justice League movie. Sure it'll require patience on the part of WB...it'll be hard...watching Marvel bring out Avengers 2 before this and generally wiping the floor with them in the world of live action movies...but serves them right for not knowing how to utilise these great characters in a way that the people behind the animated DC movies do so...so effortlessly! Heck, if only Nolan had thrown in a hint that Batman lived in a world of the amazing in Rises...I'd have stuck with Bale...but that's over...so lets move on with a new one.

You do realize those animated movies are direct adaptations of certain comic arcs right? You can't compare that with an original live action movie. An animated movie doesn't need to explain who's who. An animated movie doesn't shove in a romantic subplot. An animated movie takes a 5 part comic and copies everything from story to art style. Animated movies don't even need to be in the same continuity.

@ Herald..."Direct adaptations"...I don't know about that. My friend is always complaining about how the recent animated movies have differed from the way the comics did it. In any case, what's wrong with adaptations...isn't that what any movie based on an already established idea is doing...whether it's live action or not? From Kevin Conroy's Batman (all series...including Batman Beyond...and movies including the brilliant The Mask of the Phantasm), the Superman series and the JL series to

Well of course DC will fuck this up royally, and these awesome characters like Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman will sit on the shelf for another couple decades, and we will have to see another rebooted Bats and Supes in 5 years.

Just fucking get it right, and keep it right. It really can't be that hard. I think the first and foremost thing you have to do, in adapting any comic book movie for that matter, IS MAKE IT LOOK LIKE ALEX ROSS PAINTINGS!!! No horrendous, pointless redesigns of

Make it CGI

Seriously, just make this an adult oriented computer animated movie. PG-13, realistically animated, hired great voice talent and get some comic writers on the bitch. I can't be the only one that thinks that would be a cool flick...

So this CGI movie you have in your head... Why would it not be better in live action? I'm talking the same exact film in every single way (story, dialogue, cinematography, action, choreography, costumes, etc).
