The Last Jedi rumor teases Finn’s mission and The First Order’s new vessel

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

If you'd care to remain in the dark about what STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI has to offer, the following may contain a few spoilers which you may wish to avoid. As usual, take this with a grain of salt, but the folks over at MakingStarWars have revealed a few details about the upcoming STAR WARS sequel which includes a description of The First Order's new vessel as well as what sort of shenanigans Finn (John Boyega) will be getting up to. We'll get into the nitty gritty following this Tweet from director Rian Johnson in which he pairs a behind-the-scenes photo from THE LAST JEDI with the announcement that he'll be attending Star Wars Celebration on April 14th.

Still with us? Good, away we go. It seems that The First Order will be following in the Empire's footsteps once again with the reveal that they will have their own Super Star Destroyer. Unlike the ones we saw in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI, The First Order's new Destroyer will be much simpler. MakingStarWars states that it will just be "a gigantic huge wedge, solid, and dark." They further speculate that this will be The First Order's main command ship in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI as well as the location of a mission Finn is sent on.

Finn will apparently be going undercover and donning a First Order officer's uniform as he boards the new vessel, and it's here that a certain rumoured cameo may come into play.

We think the Tom Hardy sequence (a bit where Hardy plays a stormtrooper) might play out slightly different than we once thought. The gist is that a stormtrooper that used to know Finn slaps his ass; knowing him back when he was FN-2187, the trooper clearly doesn’t know what actually happened on Starkiller Base. We were told Finn was undercover in the sequence and we figured the trooper thought Finn was undercover too, hence their unusual interaction. However, knowing he wears this uniform, we now think there’s a solid chance the trooper is congratulating Finn on his promotion within the First Order itself, not congratulating him for becoming a Resistance infiltrator as we first interpreted the information.

Should the rumours of Tom Hardy's involvement be true, I can't help but wonder which British actor will follow in Tom Hardy and Daniel Craig's footsteps and make a cameo as a Stormtrooper in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX. Shall we place our bets?

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
