The Last Jedi’s massive casino sequence even impressed Mark Hamill

Mark Hamill Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Post-production on STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI officially wrapped up several days ago, but as there are still months left to go before the Rian Johnson film hits theaters, it seems to be our fate to be teased with the knowledge that somewhere, the completed version of THE LAST JEDI is sitting there, begging to be watched. I think this is where a smidge of patience would come in handy. While we wait, I suppose we'll have to make due with taking what small teases come our way. Given that this is STAR WARS, it's pretty much a given that we can expect some extraordinary sequences which showcase where all that money goes, and in the case of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, one of those costly sequences takes place in the casino city of Canto Bight, which is apparently so massive that it even impressed Mark Hamill.

While speaking with the official Star Wars website, Hamill revealed that the set was easily one of the most opulent he's ever encountered.

I was on one set, and I’m not giving anything away because Rian has already talked about a casino sequence. The set, with 150 actors all dressed in prosthetics and puppetry and robots — that set alone could probably easily have financed 100 Brigsby Bears. It was easily one of the most opulent sets I’ve ever been on. I’m fascinated not by just the scenes I’m in. When I had free time I would go and observe all these different actors and all these different scenes. The amount of talent that just is unrecognized… That’s why the credits run for an hour and a half. Because it takes thousands of people to successfully mount an epic of this size.

We don't know much about what will happen on Canto Bight in THE LAST JEDI, but we do know that Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) will be making their way there as part of a secret Resistance mission, possibly to make contact with Benicio del Toro’s character.

As Mark Hamill didn't exactly have a lot to do in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, it will be a huge thrill to hear the Jedi Master speak once again, and, hopefully, show a few of these new characters how an old-school Jedi gets things done. Even after all these years, Mark Hamill is still blown away by just how huge of a production these STAR WARS films are, and coming back even proved to be a little terrifying. "Everyone says, 'Oh, it must be so fun coming back to Star Wars,'" Hamill said. "Yeah, it’s fun but it’s also hugely intimidating and bordering on terrifying, because it’s just almost too high profile for comfort. Brigsby Bear is a little film about little people with big ideas. It’s set in the suburbs. I mean, you can relate to it. With something like this, it’s just a massive fantasy film."

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
