The Men in Black III viral marketing has begun

MEN IN BLACK III has had a long and rough journey to the big screen and a trailer that doesn't feel very fresh or unique. Now, they are adding the tried and true viral marketing campaign that we have all seen before.

The banner above has been making it across the internet and some physical billboards emblazoned with a toll free hotline number. When called, the voice recording purports to be "Bug Eyes," a blogger intent on making news of the Men in Black Suits available to the entire world. There are a few different scenarios you can dial through that eventually lead you to the blog TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal.com, which is a very rudimentary blog with images from the movie (and possibly the most unwieldy URL ever made).

The fine print at the bottom of the site proclaims it to be a part of the Men In Black Suits Are Real "online experience." Also a part of that internet game is the website for Wu's Diamond Garden, the Chinese restaurant featured in the trailer for the film. The Wu's site is a much better design, boasting an interactive menu filled with disgusting dishes that may or may not contain alien species as the main course.

MEN IN BLACK III just doesn't get me excited to see it on the big screen. Sure, I enjoyed the first two, but this just feels like a rehash of the exact same thing we have already seen, now in bad 3D.

MEN IN BLACK III opens on May 25th, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: Remember when Will Smith, Adam Sandler, and Jim Carrey made movies that we were excited to see in movie theaters? Good times.

I had fun on Wu's website. The menu items are funny, and the game was a bit of fun too.

On the contrary...

...to your last paragraph. Something like this makes me more interested in seeing this movie. I'm not a Will Smith fan at all, but he has had some good roles, and I think this is one of his best. This is something I could enjoy seeing in the theater, because it most likely will be very entertaining. I don't care to see movies on the big screen, unless it's something that's meant to be seen there [link] Movies where I need to take the time to absorb it's story are well done in my own living

A movie like this however falls into the aforementioned 'etc.' category for me.

I think that this "blog" is actually a pretty cool way to market the film. I dig it.

Adam Sandler has made movies that we were excited to see in theater ? When did that ever happen ? (The only exception being Punch-Drunk Love, but it wasn't exciting because of Sandler, but rather director P.T. Anderson)
