The MPAA pulls trailers for The Hangover, Part II from theaters

04.06.2011

Last week, Warner Bros. debuted the full trailer for THE HANGOVER, PART II online and set it to run before prints of SOURCE CODE in theaters. Just yesterday, Warner Bros. sent an urgent notice to all theater owners notifying them that all copies of the trailer "need to be destroyed" and all current placements, including and especially SOURCE CODE, need to be removed immediately. No replacement trailer nor a reason was given (though the line "the MPAA [has] instructed" is telling). So what gives?

UPDATE - Warner Bros. released a statement saying, "In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens."

This is the trailer in question:

The trailer was obviously pre-approved by the MPAA (that green little title card in the beginning tells us so) so why now decide to not just pull the trailer but destroy it? Was it the "whore in Las Vegas" line? The use of the words "bitches" or "gay boys?" The monkey "nibbling on the weenus?" Frankly it could be any one of those things. The MPAA isn't talking but likely there was a complaint (or a few complaints) from families who went to see SOURCE CODE and weren't happy with the HANGOVER trailer.

So for now, you'll have to just watch it online or wait until SCREAM 4, which is when a "new" HANGOVER trailer will debut...

Gay

The only one`s I see complaining are homosexuals that get offended when the word gay is used on non gay people...buncha fags. Hollywood is full of homos.

The following message is rated R for explicit language

Who the F complains about a trailer? They shouldn't even be rated in the first place IMO. Also, F the MPAA in general.

and According to the director, they made the trailer as much pg-13 as possible. Can't imagine how much crazy shit the movie is going to have.

Good News

Everyone involved in "The Hangover 2" should send a fruit basket with a thank you note to the MPAA. It'll gross at least $10M more because of this attention.

Movie goers to Source Code upset by some PG-13 language? They, and their kids, can watch Jake Gyllenhall and Michelle Monaghan blow up 55 times but can't handle some playground level potty words?

Well the exploding pig was surprisingly graphic for an "all audience" trailer. I'm guessing it was that. It was probably passed because it was an dead animal exploding and not a person. But then it got a bunch of complaints from parents or something. Other than that though, I didn't really see anything that would make it any worse than any other approved adult comedy trailer. I think it had to be the pig.

Who cares MPAA

Watch "This Movie Has Not Yet Been Rated: with interviews by filmmakers like Kevin Smith. It's a useless system but need to feel important to keep their lousy jobs. But on this worthless crap? First one stunk and this looks like a lazy repeat. Burn the sequel not the trailer...

The people who have a problem with things like this really need to grow up and have a sense of humor.

What else did you expect to see in "The Hangover 2" trailer? Rainbows and butterflies?

maybe the exploding pig carcass? they probably got 1 complaint from some old lady in fresno and decided to burn the whole damn lot of 'em!

i can tell you most will not be destroyed and will probably end up in some projectionist's trailer collection.

Ok let the -'s fly after this, but yes this looks ok to me but it's the same fucking movie! I know its a "part II" but come on how lazy is this? It looks like they had some ideas left over from the first one so they put it in a diff setting and just went with it.

If it's an offensive trailer isn't even the issue. The issue is that they already approved the trailer and they have NO CLUE what they believe in. MAKE A RULING AND STICK TO IT, instead of being a bunch of gutless, spineless, pussies.

don't really care

I watch most of my trailers online at this point, taking it out of theaters won't effect me. It does seem like a restricted trailer to me though, why would it have been in a movie like the Source Code anyway?

"My child is too innocent for that talk! Hey Tommy....get out of the bathroom already! Why do you spend so much time in there??? He's such a sweet innocent little angel..."

Get rid of the MPAA already.

The MPAA is equally as outdated and unnecessary as the Comics Magazine Association of America.

Stupid MPAA. What a pointless, archaic system.
Doesn't matter the movie is still coming out in May and it's still going to put many asses in theatres seats regardless of this.
They just love to be the bad guy. Hopefully they all have the heart attacks that are long over due, they must all be fucken a hundred years old to find this trailer THAT offensive.

WTF???

The only ppl who could be affected negatively by this kind of language are small children. So i ask WTF are small children doing in a theater watching Source Code? It's not like it's rated R but it's not like its a fucking kids movie either. This is just like the ass hats who bring their toddlers to Horror movies.

The MPAA is useless and irrelevant.

There needs to be a MUCH better way to classify and rate films.

Fuck the MPAA!!! My guess is that the "weenus" line is what got this pulled though. I loved "The Hangover", but I was disappointed that this trailer may have shown too much. That's the problem, the 1st film has set too high of a bar.

I actually understand this. When I first saw the trailer i thought they were pushing bounderies. I actually get the MPAA's reasoning on this one.

MPAA...fucking tyrants. I remember far worse shit being in previews for the first Austin Powers movie, and that was 15 years ago (damn, I'm old).

How much longer is the film industry going to put up with their arbitrary bullshit??

You know what the sad part is...

Up here in Canada, if the film you're seeing in the theatre is R-rated, they play red-band trailers in front of it.

And yet this trailer which is incredibly PG rated gets cut?
