Update: It looks as though this was too good to be true, and so it is! While initially mistaken to be a teaser for Netflix' upcoming Lemony Snicket series, this fan-made trailer is exactly that; a well-made fake. According to Variety, a Neflix representative stated this video was not released from Netflix and not anything official. While the series IS on its way, a premiere date has yet to be announced. You can check out the original video below for as long as it's up!

LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS seemed to have all the right ingredients, but alas, the 2004 movie just didn't gel with general audiences. It looks as though Netflix feels they can do the darkly comedic book series justice and with their track record so far, who's to argue? The story follows that of three orphans who are taken in by the dastardly Count Olaf, who hopes to get a hold of their inheritance. While the cast has yet to be announced for the upcoming series, it looks like a YouTube user by the name of Eleanora Poe (book fans should get that one) has put together a teaser of what fans would want to see. Something out of a Tim Burton film ensues!

Admittedly, the original film did nothing for me, but I also haven't read the books on which the film and this series are based. I know Snicket has its fan base so I'm looking forward to checking out the series when it hits next year with (somewhat) fresh eyes. The big question is who will take up the role of Count Olaf on which Jim Carrey seemed to slip into so well?

Series of Unfortunate Events will hit Netflix sometime in the near future.

Who would cast to play Count Olaf?

Even tho I'm upset that's not the real teaser, I love that we've come to the age where we can make awesome professional level stuff like this! This is our time! Down here! Yes!

Netflix should hire the filmmaker to make the actual trailer

I think Mark Strong would make a stellar Count Olaf. Before you hit the downvotes, consider this: he showed great comic timing in KICK-ASS and KINGSMAN, and his ability to play the villain is undisputed.

That was creepier than most horror movie trailers.

I would be down for this If it does turn out to be real. The books were favorites when I was younger (and I'm thinking about thumbing through them again for nostalgia' sake) and I'm shore it would be better than th tonally confused film. I would love to see who would be cast in this as well (and how they would turn 13 fairly separate books into one series).

According to Variety, Netflix is claiming its a fake. If so, it is pretty well-made
