The new Pinhead

02.04.2009

Update: Sorry, folks, turns out this is just test footage and not what Pinhead will look like in the actual film. It's still pretty cool and spooky, though, so it seems they're going in the right direction.

The cool fiends over at "Fangoria" have gotten what seems to be some test shots of the brand spanking new and updated Pinhead featured in the upcoming HELLRAISER remake. This guy is looking pretty goddamn terrifying so if you thought this remake is an unnecessary piece of shit, maybe this will change your mind a little bit. Seriously, he makes the original Pinhead look like a teddy bear. Click through to check out more pics.

Pinhead, HELLRAISER

Extra Tidbit: Wow, the original HELLRAISER was a full 21 years ago.

Even though this is not the final product, I dislike what they are going for.

The disorganized grid of "pins" kills it for me if they keep it that way.

The precision of the original Cenobites design really gave the characters a mystique that was so intriguing, it made them very scary- like there had been such an awfully disturbing purpose to their appearances it was too horrible to explore, but it had a sense of organization to it.

The cenobites have always fascinated me as they were, and we know so little about them, really. And that's the way it should be.

This more "raw" and "gritty" (2 words studio big wigs get a hard-on for)look they may be going for kills the organized chaos that made the originals so horrific.

Similar to what Rob Zombie did when he over explained Michael Meyers in the Halloween re-make, odds are, we'll learn too much about Pinhead in this incarnation, and it'll kill all the unknown bits that made him scary in the first place.

Bring back Doug

Bring back Doug if you're going to do it right!!!
I don't care who directs it, unless Bradley is back and Clive is heavily involved this film is going to shit the bed.

Doug Bradley.......(sigh)

While I do like the look of the new Pinhead, why couldn't they just do the same thing with Doug Bradley? He's Pinhead all the way. Incidentally, I met Doug one day at the Weekend of Horror's convention about 17 years ago. He was outside smoking and we had a pretty cool conversation with him. He had on sunglasses, but when he took them off, his eyes were almost as black as they are in his movies. It was creepy. He was pretty awesome, friendly, a lot shorter than I imagined he would be.

Anyway, I'm about as pissed about the new Pinhead as I am about choosing a different guy to play Freddy in a Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot. Come on Hollywood!!! Don't fuck with out horror icons anymore!!!

THIS IS NOT THE NEW PINHEAD!

This make-up was created by the original Pinhead make-up artist. When he heard about the re-boot and was never called to work on it, he decided to make a new design himself. This is that product. They are looking to reimage Pinhead though, this is just not it . . . yet.

Hellraiser 1, 2 and ...maybe 4 (Bloodlines) were worth watching, the first two especially so. Pinhead was always sort of 'dignified', so I'm not sure about the blood-splattered look, but I'll keep an open mind on this remake for now, though it's an probably unnecessary one.

he looks good and creepy but i have to agree with most of the people on this topic, Hellraiser doesnt need a remake. Unfortunetly in Hollywood if the fanboys hate the idea it seems to get fast tracked so it doesnt really matter what i think.

F*CK YEA!!!

This re-adaptation has been getting better- and better-sounding every update. Just as long as the filmmakers remember who the REAL monster is (the woman in the story), they can get as gory as they want! (And remember, ever_green - this is just a test image, it's not the final image of this particular Cenobite as it will be in the finished movie - but again, as long as they keep the antagonists balanced and centered properly, this should work out juuuuuuust fine.)

Me? I'm

Have they seen the original or even read The Hellbound Heart? The Cenobites are high priests of pain and suffering who blur the distinction of pain and pleasure... not THIS. Now it looks like a supernatural Saw with the best aspects of Hellraiser forgotten. I hope this is hated and tucked away... Clive deserves better than that.

This...

is horrible, and it's not a compliment, even for a horror movie.

Hey, young dudes love Saw and other turds like that, let's put blood on Pinhead's face! Yeah, and while we're at it, let's put away all the deviant sexual aspect of the original, even though it's a treason to the original movie and of course to the own words of Clive Barker! Let's put some young shitty actresses with big boobs (can't we get Megan Fox or another flavour of the week?) there too, enough of that unholy gay-SM

"Pinhead's appearance is indicative of that concept."

More than ever in this version.

"By making him look like some sort of rejected Silent Hill concept, the essence of the character is ruined."

Yeah, it's so much better to have him look like a rejected Tim Burton concept.

LAME

Booooooo. I really disagree about this pinhead making the original look like a teddy bear. What was so frightening about the original is that yes he had nails in all around his head and face but it was how calm and quiet and proper he was that was so frightening. This pinhead is SHOWING us that he's scary. Ahhhhhh, he's got bloody cuts in his face, ahhhhhhh foggy contacts in his eyes. Sure he's scary, really, but the original pinhead is just plain frightening.

NO

Absolutely not. The original Pinhead design is outstanding and should be left alone. The Cenobites were about using pain as an art, and Pinhead's appearance is indicative of that concept. By making him look like some sort of rejected Silent Hill concept, the essence of the character is ruined.

Way under par.

I agree with comments made below, the makeup here(if this is what will actually be used?) terribly undercuts the supernatural aspect of the Cenobite Extra Dimensional Being-aka- "Pin Head". Wouldn't mind a remake but surely, this won't be the approved look for "Pin Head"?!

The macabre look of original was unique to the pinhead character. The grid nails, the suit, the voice. This looks sloppy and thrown together, boring even. The original was almost Giger-esque, he's supposed to be other worldly not Earthly.

About the grid pattern

I think the grid made him look too much like a stylished art subject. This makes him look way more intimidating.

Now that they have gotten rid of the gothic outfit... phew. Hated that crap.

Not nearly as scary as the original Pinhead. He looks more like a Saw victim than the terrifying god-like horror icon he should be. Gory does not equal scary.

I always loved how the pins were at intersections on a grid. The grid is badass. Chill out on the blood, keep the grid, it looked cooler. A Hellraiser remake is one of the few remakes I'm in support of, since the original had great ideas and imagery but shoddy execution, fun as it is. So I don't think they should be playing around with the character designs, which were so great to begin with.

Garbage as is this whole thing

I love the Hellraiser 1 & 2, and a remake is sickening, this *updated look* does nothing but confirm to me what a wasteful idea this is.

but it's still an unnecessary retooling. Besides, I'm not a big fan of the guys behind that particular project.

Fucking awful! There isn't anything wrong with Pinhead's current look. It's perfect. And I'm NOT a Hellraiser fan at all, I hate Pinhead (because he haunts me)...but I think die-hard fans would agree he doesn't need an update.

It looks like they crossed Doug Bradley's Pinhead with Sam Neill's Doctor Weir. No sale, in my book. Why does everything have to be "newwwwwww and extreme!!!!!" with these remakes?

Still, at least the Martyrs guy is directing- which gives this flick a little potential. Plus, the source material, "The Hellbound Heart," rules.
