The new poster for The Dark Knight Rises tells us that a fire will rise

May. 21, 2012by:

How many times have you seen THE AVENGERS by now? Has it satisfied you until July? Are you ready for the storm? It's coming.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES may not be here yet, but this new poster for the film is. Is it a coincidence that the day I wear my TDKR shirt that this is released? Probably, but suddenly I feel special.

The poster is pretty awesome. The tagline "A fire will rise" only emphasis the sense of destruction this poster gives off only to be off-set by Batman hanging his head. "When Gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die."

Check out the poster below.

Like a bad shopjob over a recolor of the original poster and a screencap from the teaser trailer. Not a fan, especially when that Bane poster was so cool.

Meh.

Just like Harry Potter, you have an epic conclusion to a great franchise and your posters are just slight modifications from earlier films. Still excited for the film.

WB has been hijacked....

...by the people behind those damn X-Men : First Class posters. What the hell happened here? One, the poster doesn't even make sense thanks to proportion-angle issues and common sense. Two, that's an old picture of Batman from "The Dark Knight". Three, that's the teaser poster behind him. I seriously cannot wait for this movie but if the posters are going to cheapen the vibe this way I'd rather have no posters at all.

seems like

it was a fan-made poster. But it's still decent. Sure doesn't beat Bane walking away from Batmans' broken mask. Wish we had a fresh new poster with more characters in the mix.

kind of a lame poster. Like a retread of the ICONIC Dark Knight burning building poster.

But I'm still super super psyched for the flick this poster is pimping.

Not feeling any of this...

Ok. So they re-used the first poster, and photoshopped Batman in, taken from a behind the scenes still from "The Dark Knight". Wow. That's just about as lazy as slapping "Rises" onto the title of the last movie. Or about as lazy as trying to stop all those paparazzi from photographing almost the entire movie while they were shooting in Pittsburgh. I'm a fan of the last two entries, but this one is feeling extremely slapped together. Maybe they just aren't that excited anymore. "Let's finish

Wow. That was...disappointing. I can't say very much except to echo everybody else. I hope they do some individual character posters for Bane, Catwoman, John Blake, Tali...Miranda Tate, maybe even Alfred, Gordon and Lucius Fox. And have a surprise Liam Neeson poster with the tagline "You didn't have to save me after all."

Obviously this is a film that doesn't need great marketing to be a success, but you've gotta be kidding me with this poster. They seemed to be building towards something with the first two posters, which were both dark and foreboding. And they drop the ball with this cheap Photoshop job. I don't understand how, with all the creative minds we have in and around Hollywood, that this kind of work still gets the stamp of approval.

Yup, they could've done better.

It's not bad, but it's far from great. Bane's poster easily tops this.

I've been digging Nolan's Batman series, but for the life of me that poster looks like Bats is doing a hip thrust. It's the only thing I can see him doing in that poster when I look at it now.

They need to just let the Mondo artists make the official movie posters. This photoshopped crap sucks.

Movie posters were so much better in the '80's with guys like Drew Struzan making them...

It's not slick, and the angles are all wrong. Batman looks like he's green-screened his butt in the action. This film has a lot of pressure on its shoulders and it would be a less than opportune moment for Nolan to misfire, but I reckon it's going to rock. Again.

Isn't that Batman pic from the first image from the Dark knight back in 2007, when it was filming. Seems like it. All in all, it's okay, but I like it because, well, it's Batman.

I recognize that "angry looking down" he's doing

...He shouldn't have been texting in the men's room, but he did. He shouldn't have dropped his phone in the urinal, but he did. Now he's staring down and that fetid yellow bowl of phone broth, trying to decide if he should rescue it, or just say fuck it. And that 3 second rule is ticking down fast...

I don't care what anyone else says, this is one bad-ass poster! It matches to The Dark Knight poster, and way better than, like, The Avengers one-sheet.
