The new trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak is sure to send chills

05.13.2015

Tom Hiddleston has brought a menacing charm to the character of Loki in Marvel's universe, but I have a feeling his charm wont be able to help him in this dread-filled tale. Enter Guillermo del Toro (HELLBOY 2, PAN'S LABYRINTH) with a story about an aspiring author (Mia Wasikowska) trying to escape the ghosts of her past as she's swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds and remembers. Sounds like a nifty getaway! You can check out some of the haunts that are in-store with the newest trailer, as well as chill-inducing motion poster further below.

I'm a big fan of del Toro's methodology of bouncing back and forth between big-budget pictures and more intimate ones, and while I'm curious as to how his HOBBIT movies would have fared, there's no way I'd trade PACIFIC RIM or CRIMSON PEAK for them. The one thing that struck me the most during this trailer is that I couldn't keep my eyes off the design of the mansion. Even if his movies miss the mark, you can't deny the artistry involved. I really hope this one stands toe-to-toe with the likes of DEVIL'S BACKBONE and PAN'S LABYRINTH.

CRIMSON PEAK will hit theaters on October 16, 2015.

I preferred the first trailer. This doesn't look particularly scary, but perhaps a little bit spooky. Still reminds me of the old Hammer films, both stylish and a little bit campy. The fact that from what I can tell, del Toro and his cast aren't flinching at the more ridiculous aspects of this story gives me hope.

I really really really want to like this but...

despite the fact that it has a killer cast & one of my favorite directors, nothing in the trailer looked even remotely scary. I mean seriously? It looked about as scary as 1999's The Haunting.

Glad to see Del Toro going back to his horror roots somewhat.

CGI ghosts.... That's a big sign of trouble

I love the look of this movie but everything guild up is ruined by the horrible CGI.

Considering how great Frighteners was and still is, I can overlook CGI ghosts

Completely agree. That's how I felt about the del Toro produced Mama. The premise is good and creepy and then CGI enters and takes me out of it. It works in monster action films like Hellboy and Pacific Rim but not intimate designed ghost films.

What, you want the to use real ghosts? But you're right. If they're going to use CGI they need to know that it will look fake if its close up. Guillermo should take advantage of the horror scene, use fog, darkness to hide the imperfections.

Looks to be a fun time at the movies but I have to say, doesn't look all that creepy.

Though only two trailers released so far, it certainly hasn't electrified me.

This looks beautiful, but the generic story and hammy acting are doing nothing for me. Also, how is this an intimate movie? I get that anything is small compared to Pacific Rim, but this still looks like over processed Hollywood schlock, albeit with del Toro's signature look. I'm getting Burton vibes with this one.
