The nominations for the 70th Annual Golden Globes are here to not surprise you

Dec. 13, 2012by: Paul Shirey

Get ready, The 70th Annual Golden Globes have let loose their nominations for outstanding achievements in film and television. For the most part, everything is "as expected" in terms of who would be nominated for what. Very few surprises, although they left out GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE for best picture. Strange, that.

The Golden Globes usually serve as a preview for the "big shot" (aka The Oscars) so it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. As much as I loathe awards shows, I can't hide the fact that I'm usually interested to see how they turn out. If my "team" wins then I'm good. If my "team" loses, then I'm pretty much like, "F*ck awards shows."

This is Amy Poehler's year, she was great last season. Parks and Rec should have been nominated over modern family though.

Hopefully ParaNorman sneaks in come Oscar time. Frankenweenie is the most underrated of the the bunch and I hope it wins. In terms of movies, it is pretty much what I expected. But, where is Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead on the TV side? How about John Goodman for Flight/Argo? DeNrio and Jacki Weaver for Silver Lingings? Jim Broadbent in Cloud Atlas and a longshot, Michael Fassbender in Prometheus? Oh well, you can't win them all. At least Cumberbatch got a nod for Sherlock.

No Thrones or Parks and Rec.

I'm sorry but screw Downtown Abby. The Newsroom looks good but Game of Thrones not being nominated should be a crime. Of course overrated Big Bang Theory gets nominated and still Parks and Rec. is snubbed again. I wish to see Dexter and Walking Dead get some noms too instead of boring period pieces that award shows always blow their load on.

Is it just me, or has Arkin been getting a bunch Supporting Actor nods solely for the "Argo fuck yourself" line? I mean, I loves me some Alan Arkin, but I wouldn't say it was a particularly standout performance.

Anyway, nice to see that they threw the Bond franchise a bone after 50 years by nominating it for something, even if it is just another one for music/song.

Acting Awards are a lock...

I'm not saying they're bad performances or anything but it kind of bums me that I already know that Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Hathaway will be heading home with awards.
But the race is a bit more interesting for director and film, I agree. It's a toss up between Lincoln & Zero Dark Thirty I feel. (a la King's Speech vs. Social Network, or No Country for Old Men vs. There Will Be Blood). Bigelow already sweeped oscars two

Bigelow already sweeped oscars two years ago, so maybe they'll go for Spielberg, who hasn't wowed award seasons since Private Ryan ?

TDKR

No Nolan huh? I guess they weren't obligated to nominated someone because they died? Hopefully Heath would have won even if he was alive but this is so political it's digusting.

Yes. TDKR was a brilliant adaptation of Tale of Two Cities. Maybe it wasn't a great batman film, but def a great movie.

They sure loved SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN.....Just an observation (It was a good movie, though never thought any big award worthy). All in all not a bad list of nominations, but as a big fan of Big Bang Theory, the current season is REALLY sub-par.

Anyone notice that Anthony Hopkins didnt get nominated for playing Alfred Hitchcock, but Toby Jones did (Best Actor in Mini-series/tv movie - The Girl)

and i think this year the competition for these awards is too damn high that half of everyone i'd expect to get nomintated dont, but i can see that everyone that did get nominated deserves it. Once the new year is done (and everyone had a chance to see Zero Dark Thirty, Django, Les Mis, and The Impossible) we can start getting to the Golden

Anyone notice...

This is the second time Tarantino's movie has been up against Kathryn Bigelow's. I STILL believe Mark Boal should give his Screenplay Oscar to Tarantino. There was nothing remarkable about Hurt Locker's screenplay whatsoever. Something tells me Boal will win again...I know this is only the Globes, but the parallels here are interesting.

I'm glad to see nothing from TDKR was nominated, Nothing in TDKR came close to the performances, story or cinematography in TDK. TDKR isn't as good and shouldn't be nominated just because TDK got snubbed 4 years ago.

There should have been nominations based on the entire trilogy like it was after RETURN OF THE KING.

Anyone else find it a bit funny that almost every year Meryl Streep is nominated for an award? Don't get me wrong, she's one of my favorite actresses, but I think it's kinda funny.

1. Happy to see that Joaquin Phoenix and PSH were nominated for acting but no love for PTA/THE MASTER for Best Picture and Director?
2. "Skyfall" by Adele is a nice surprise and I've got a strong feeling it will win. But why not Best Picture?
3. Nothing for THE GREY...wow!
4. One little nomination for CLOUD ATLAS...wow!
5. Nothing for LOOPER
6. Nothing for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
7. Nothing for KILLER JOE (That amazes me!)

Other than those points, it's actually some pretty good

Other than those points, it's actually some pretty good nominations. It has some big movies that I loved and still have yet to see so still good choices.

It'll be a battle between Daniel-Day Lewis and Joaquin for Best Actor no doubt. PARANORMAN not getting nominated is unreal as well. Hopefully the Oscars are better but this is average.

I'm with you buddy... Paranorman is definitely one of my favorite movies of 2012. TBH The only other animated movie I checked out was Brave and Paranorman was much better. I guess it was too adult and mature (I'm sure the gay joke at the end ruffled some feathers, judging by the comments in the IMDB boards aka the place where brain cells go to die) and not that family friendly. Between Paranorman and Cabin In The Woods, 2012 was a great year for horror comedies / parodies.
