The poster and synopsis for Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand hit the net

08.14.2012

The poster and synopsis for THE LAST STAND, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first leading role since TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES, has gone online.  Featuring a weathered and tough-looking Arnold, the poster is reminiscent of the Arnold of old-literally and figuratively.  Directed by Jee-woon Kim (I SAW THE DEVIL), Schwarzenegger stars as Sheriff Ray Owens, who is drawn into a massive chase to capture an escaped druglord.  The pic also stars Forest Whitaker, Peter Stormare, Genesis Rodriguez, Jaimie Alexander, Harry Dean Stanton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eduardo Noriega, and Johnny Knoxville.

Take a stand:

Here's the synopsis:

After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.

With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow. Cortez’ path: straight through Summerton Junction, where the whole of the U.S. law enforcement, including Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker) will have their final opportunity to intercept him before the violent fugitive slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately rallies his team and takes the matter into his own hands, setting the stage for a classic showdown.

THE LAST STAND hits theaters on January 18, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Schwarzenegger is definitely taking on a more Eastwood-esque look these days. I think it will work in his favor.

DO IT NOW! GET TO DA CHOPPA! I can't wait to see Arnie tear up the screen again. It's been too long.

I like the poster. It really looks like the "last stand" with nothing to lose for the character. But who in the right mind add the car in the poster??? It looks very out of place.

Fantastic poster except...

That Camero at the bottom sticks out like a sore thumb. Ugh. Nothing against the car, but yikes what sad product placement. Otherwise this would be amazing. Arnold looks BA with that .44 arm cannon.

So GM is sponsoring this movie then? If he's driving a "modified Corvette ZR1" why is there a Camaro in the poster?

I didn't even notice the car, but now that it's been pointed out... ugh, what an eyesore.
Still, sweet poster, and even if the synopsis made the movie sound like utter crap, I'd still see it. Arnold has always been my favorite old-school action star, and I'm pretty excited to see him get back to it.

It's the Austrian Eastwood

Yes, that Camaro sticks out like a sore thumb of cross-promotion, but otherwise it's an awesome poster and this is shaping up to be a shockingly wise choice for a comeback role for my former Governator.

Sounds good and I am glad to see Arnie back. But I find the choice of director a tad odd. I loved Tale Of Two Sisters, Good, Bad, and Weird and I Saw The Devil, but I am a little worried about this being his first US film. Granted, Good, Bad, and Weird showed that he can produce some great action. Still, it doesn't always turn out all that great when filmmakers from Asia come to tackle American cinema (see Ryuhei Kitamura's Midnight Meat Train, Takashi Miike's Imprint, Wong Kar Wai's My
