The power of Christ compels you to watch this trailer for The Rite

12.10.2010

If I were going to make a horror movie, I'd probably steer clear of a movie about an exorcism. It's been done to death and honestly you're always going to be compared to one of the finest horror films of all time - THE EXORCISM. But another comer is on the way to prove that perhaps not all exorcism movies are created equal.

Like some before it, THE RITE purports to be based on real experiences. It also boasts the services of Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins, which immediately gives it some cache. But does that make it good? I'll admit that this trailer is effectively cut and gives me some hope. But then I wonder why this movie is coming out in January at not during Halloween or something. Hmm.. Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.

THE EXORCISM?

This trailer looks cool. But so, um? What is this fine film "THE EXORICISM" you speak of? I've never seen if before. Oh yeah, no one proofs on here. I hate to pick on mistakes man, but that's just poor journalism when you can't even get the title correct.

This actually could be interesting. The whole priest getting possessed and uber high tech vatican (heh) are welcome changes from the whole "girl gets possessed and does extreme yoga" movies. This will not be anywhere close to The Exorcist though, that movie really did break the mold on the possession genre.

Would you count The Exorcism of Emily Rose? I know there're mixed reactions to the film but I sort of like it. It was different than other exorcism movies.

The quick flash of Rutger Hauer definitely helps sell this, along with Hopkins' manic behavior. I think there are a couple of real hurdles for the exorcism movie, which deal with how disproportionate the actual accounts are to what's on screen, and the fact that they rely heavily on religious spirituality.

If you could count "Drag Me to Hell" as an exorcism movie, then I'd say that one is up there, for sure.

- It is Rutger Hauer;
- The music is from Bram Stoker's Dracula indeed.

This trailer is better than the one I saw a while back. They reveal too much, though.

I absolutely love Anthony Hopkins, he doesn't get quite as many good roles as he should. This doesn't look bad, I'm actually gonna check it out.

These "writers" are in such a unique position to report about movies, interview cool people involved with film, etc.. but they just don't know how to proofread. Sad, really. especially since this is in the first 3 lines of the article. 3/4's of these site writer's don't even read what they write back to themselves- NOT EVEN ONCE to check for glaring embarrassing blunders.

Sure is. That movie had an amazing score and I hear music from it all the time in trailers.

Well shit

that looks pretty good. And is that Rutger fucking Hauer at 2:10, or do my eyes deceive me?

I gotta admit...

I think the movie looks wild and I'm all for it. I even love some of the lines in the trailer. And Hopkins looks creepier than "hell" again.

I just hope this doesn't turn out to be just an extremely well-cut trailer.

As for the tidbit, my second fave is definitely "Exorcism of Emily Rose".
