The premiere date for the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer may have leaked

02.13.2014

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is the riskiest Marvel movie to date. It features no established superheroes, a cast of relative unknowns, and a somewhat convoluted storyline. If the studio isn't careful, the movie could easily turn into their GREEN LANTERN. It also is not helping that we have had no trailer. Well, that looks like it is about to change.

The always trusty Alberta Film Ratings Board classified the trailer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on Monday with a running time of two and a half minutes. That typically means that the trailer is going to premiere in the very near future. How soon may have been leaked by Yahoo Singapore who tweeted earlier today that the trailer would be premiering on February 18th. That tweet was quickly removed which may indicate it was factual but not meant for public knowledge. This being the Internet, we all now know and are waiting with bated breath.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is likely not going to be revealing much new footage outside of the teaser that premiered back at Comic Con. Likely it will be edited a bit to include new complete special effects sequences, but much like the X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST teaser, expect this to be what anyone at SDCC already saw.

I am excited to finally get an HD look at the trailer. We have been stuck with bootleg copies of the film to date and the stinger scene at the end of THOR: THE DARK WORLD as our knowledge of James Gunn's movie. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY premieres August 1st, 2014.

"a cast of relative unknowns". Like Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close. Never heard of 'em. :P I kid. I know what you mean.
This movie is going to rock, big time. It's going to be so crazy that it will be awesome.

This movie definitely has a lot riding on it. But I think it being a relatively unknown property will work in it's favor. Marvel doesn't have to worry about cramming a lot of comic plot points into one film (i.e. Green Lantern), they can flesh out the story at their own pace without the expectation of hitting a bunch of comic book moments in one film. I think where it can fail is in the story itself (like and movie), does the movie tell a good story? Does it make sense in the reality in

But also, how well does it fit into the Marvel Cinematic Canon? We already know this movie won't tie directly into the Avengers: AoU, and we know this franchise will exist almost separate from what happens on Earth. But there will certainly be key plot points that connect to the rest of the MCU, can they make sense of that? Can they make that all flow properly? If the answer is yes, then they have a winning film on their hands. If not, then yes, it will be like their Green Lantern.

I agree that this franchise has a lot riding on it... what with a giant budget and loosely connected with The Avengers, Marvel does carry some risk releasing a movie like this, but the time for it couldn't be more perfect. With a trailer that I'm sure they're editing largely due to special effects and already a sequel for 2016, I have complete faith that this film will be epic with comic fans and with the general audience as well.

I have a good feeling that this will be a successful franchise. It's probably going to be Marvel's lowest grossing movie but it can still earn a shit load of money in the process, The good thing is that this is a Marvel Studios property, and they haven't let us down yet.

how the hell can you state that because GOTG features no established superheroes, a cast of relative unknowns, and a somewhat convoluted storyline, that it could easily turn into another GREEN LANTERN, which had relatively well known stars, an established super hero, and a pretty straight forward plot. how do you even begin to think there is a similarity between these two films that GOTG is even remotely committing any of the shortcomings of Green Lantern that are the reasons that POS failed.

To be fair, I think he was comparing it to the lack of success Green Lantern enjoyed (including critical success). It would be more of an apt comparison to say this could turn into the next John Carter. I'm hoping it doesn't, but it's definitely a possibility. After people didn't turn out for Pacific Rim, I have no confidence that they'll support a film they aren't familiar with or don't even understand.

Can't wait to see Rocket Racoon in live action and to see and hear what Cooper's voice will be like in relation to the character.

I keep forgetting Bautista is in this. Should be interesting to see how he does.

Finally saw Riddick, and thought he did a solid job. They didn't ask him to do much, but sometimes the character just calls for a solid presence, and that he has.

I didn't care for him in The Man With The Iron Fists. I thought that was just a little too much for his acting ability, but again he did a nice job as a menacing villain. We'll see what they ask from him for this part, and if he is up to it.

In this case less is not more. They need to go the Winter Soldier trailer route and show us plenty to give us a good idea of what to expect if they want non-internet nerd buzz.
