The Road trailer

May. 14, 2009by:

In an article the other day in Esquire, their writer called THE ROAD the "most important" movie of 2009. Of course he also went on to caution that The Weinstein Co. was threatening to fuck it all up with their marketing campaign. They warned that the trailer would try to explain what happened that led to post-apocalyptic future in the movie, something that was never explained in the book or by its author Cormac McCarthy. Sure enough at the beginning of this trailer, we have stock footage of lighting, fires and tidal waves with a newscast voiceover. The movie looks awesome but this trailer isn't really helping the cause. Check it out below or head here to watch it in HD.

At Least A Trailer is out.

I am sure the movie will be good and if not then I hope BOB WEINSTIEN goes bankrupt and the guy start selling cookies on the street. I think this guy thinks he is smart and great...

I Am Legend trailer

Wow, I'm surprised nobody's made mention of how its trailer resembled I Am Legend's with Will Smith "waking, searching, hiding" etc.

Which of course seems like a bad thing, considering everyone on here is unanimously agreeing that they're marketing this thing the wrong way.

As someone who hasn't read the book, I think it'll be decent. Looks like they're trying to find a balance between a mainstream audience and Oscar bait, but like I said, that doesn't seem like a good thing.

The Road is such a great book that it would be a shame if they fucked up the movie, which I don't think this director is capable of doing.
Having said that, it did bother the shit out of me that the book never explained how the US became a wasteland.

Fuck you Weinsten bros

Seriously what's the idea of this "sexed up" misleading trailer? My fear is that Harvey fucking Scissorhands Weinstein will try and edit the actual film to make it look more like the trailer.

Fear Not...

From the review on Esquire, it seems to be very faithful to the book. Anyone who at least knows a little about the book and it's story knows that trailer was heavily pieced together to broaden appeal. I really looking forward to this film.

I loved the book, the casting of Viggo, and the choice of Hillcoat for direcotr.. but this trailer is not good at all... I'm worried.

Wow, that trailer is nothing like the tone of the novel. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be seeing the movie expecting something different.

Also, project 86...punctuation is your friend

i've been waiting for this trailer for way to long. I'm very upset with the added development of the wife...unless it is very minimal flashbacks. They just put her in too much. Her role in the book, for me, made it much more appealing for the lose of hope tone the book had. My anticipation for this trailer created a vision of no action scenes, hopelessness, terror, and barely taping on the edge of your seat moments. Pretty much just a calm and eerie trailer.

They might've expanded Theron's role to at least give background for the family that was. But I surely hope we don't get a full-on explanation of what actually happened.

Otherwise, Mortensen, Dillahunt, and Michael K. Wiliams look right at home in this thing.

Having read the book..

They either took some liberties with the story or that trailer is just misleading, but I still think it'll be a good movie in the end.

It was definitely misleading, but I see nothing that looks outstandingly wrong with the footage itself. And to call Charlize Theron an actual major character is a bit... inaccurate.

Pretty Cool...

The book was amazing! By watching the trailer it looks more than likely that it will not live up to the book, but will be entertaining...

reminds me of blade runner: the final cut

anyone familiar with blade runner will recall how radically different the movie is from the final cut trailer WB put out prior to the movie's release. they tried re-selling it as an action pic, which BR is far from. the road's trailer reminded me of that. but from the visuals, I'm intrigued by this near-future. can't wait for the movie.

The movie itself will be. This trailer does the book no justice. The article in Esquire gives me hope that they wont screw this up. But this trailer is total crap. I can't believe they actually put in the canned scream. With the success of NCFOM, I thought they would have been a little bit more true to the source material for the marketing campaign.

I can't wait

To goes_to_ricks:
I read the review of the moview that was posted a couple of days ago and they mentioned that the movie doesn't really focus on the global situation. I think the studio is just trying to sell the film, but I'm there regardless.

bad marketing.

What a misleading trailer.

The book is a sad drama set in a sci-fi post apocalyptic world. It's far from an action movie so this is bad marketing.

I guess I just pictured something a little less...adventurous. I never read the book, but from what I heard about the movie, I thought it be more of a character study, more about their relationships, not so much focusing on the global situation...
