The Robocop reboot can be seen in the summer of 2013

Robocop in some very blue armor

With the recent report of Joel Kinnaman taking on the robotic responsibilities of playing a new Robocop, you can expect more and more information about the production to begin appearing. Information like today's revelation that the Robocop reboot will release on August 9th, 2013.

And here's director Jose Padilha with a few more thoughts as to his approach: "Wars in the future are going to be fought with drones. We won’t send a plane with a pilot in, it will be drone. It’s getting that way now and ten years from now that’s how wars are going to be fought. But what if a drone goes wrong – who is to blame then? Do you blame the drone? And that problem asks if you can you consider a robot guilty of a crime. Or is it the corporation that made the robot that is guilty? How do you fight back against drones when you don’t have drones?"

On a side note, this information came along with the addition that the sequel to the very successful CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, called CLOUDY 2: REVENGE OF THE LEFTOVERS, will release on December 20th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: I wish this thing had an official name so that I could stop calling it "the Robocop reboot."

The originals exist, we can always watch 'em. I'm a massive fan of Robocop but am still interested to see someone else's take on the character. The world needs more cyborg movies, so I'm not going to hate on this until I've seen something about it that truly appalls me. To be honest, Marvel could make something along these lines by adapting their Deathlok character for the big screen, as it often had the whole "good man trapped in a killer machine" vibe going on.
Love me some cyborgs.

blah, blah, blah, robots, blah

Nice and deep thoughts there from the director. If a drone goes wrong who's to blame? Oh, I dunno, how about tech-SUPPORT from the idiots that designed that thing in the first place?!
For anything else simply see what the warranty says when taking it back to the store. (with the receipt of course)

I love that people want things remade based on the fact that the original is outdated. By that logic, Nazis are outdated so we should remake Casablanca and Indiana Jones. You know what else is outdated? Animatronics. We should go back and redo any movie that has these stupid robot puppets. Jaws? Hell yeah. Let's remake that with a CGI shark that is just tearing people up and exploding shit all over the place.

Seriously, people. Just because something is OLD doesn't mean it should be remade.

Robocop is an anachronized, out of date character. I loved his origin and the scenes at the corporation with the pre-cursor to Robocop, but Robocop himself always disappointed me.

If it's not R-rated, it is likely a studio decision. If you haven't noticed, Jose Padilha has a history of violent, R-rated (or unrated) movies, particularly the Elite Squad films. He has nothing in his past to indicate that he would make a PG-13 movie. That's an assumption that has no backing from the director. Now, Les Grossman already turned an R-rated franchise into a PG-13 film before (Live Free or Die Hard), but don't you think Fox studios was responsible for this? Studio interference

Fuck this

"How do you fight back against drones when you donít have drones?" Very thought-provoking, Jose. I think we have ourselves the next great auteur right here, folks.

Would have been more excited if Michael Fassbender was cast as the lead role.

Can't wait. All those "classic" action movies from the 80/90s are actually so bad and awful and pathetic if you watch them today it's not even funny.
I watched Total Recall for the 1st time some weeks ago... Wow.. what a piece of crap.
In today's day and age there are actual well made and good movies, so bring them on.

well i will say you got a set on you for posting such blasphemy but hey to each their own. with that being said you must not have been around to pop those classics in your vcr as a kid or you would know how awesome 80's/90's action movies were. they didn't have cgi and had to be incredibly creative to get those action movies filmed and filmed well. you want a bunch of Michael Bay retreads instead? i answered my own question just by re-reading your post.
