While I can't say with any certainty that those who win at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards go on to win big at the Oscars, I think it's pretty safe to say that the results are a good barometer of the opinions of people in the industry.  And so, here are the results:

Outstanding Performance By a Cast In a Motion Picture
THE ARTIST
BRIDESMAIDS

YOu really can't hate on the SAg Awards because at least they are chosen by the actors themselves & not some typical committee who picks the obvious all the time.

GO TEAM HELP!

I am SO HAPPY that the entire cast of The Help won Best Ensemble. They definitely deserve it. Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis gave AMAZING performances and they can go ahead and get their Oscar speeches ready because they're gonna win.

Not to devalue Viola Davis, but I hadn't really been thinking of her as the potential winner. I could see it happening.

I think that the Indie Spirit Awards matter quite a bit. The Oscars are the one I actually watch, and the Schmoes are great, but sometimes even we get it wrong.

DMM

I'm really curious as to what African-American people think about Octavia Spencer winning everything (and most probably the Oscar) for a role that typifies every stereotype under the sun... I'd be a little insulted.

I don't think she was as stereotyped as she was just underdeveloped. I wanted to get a glimpse of her home-life. Her tough exterior was a facade to guard against the fact that at home she had an abusive husband. "The Help" could have been great, but instead it turned into a saccharine, politically-correct fairy tale. That's not Spencer's fault.
