The second chapter of It will float into theaters on September 2019

It: Chapter 2 Pennywise

Although it was always intended that Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's "It" would span two movies, one focusing on the Losers Club as children and another as adults, it was always possible that the film wouldn't click with audiences, or, more importantly, wouldn't impress at the box-office, but impress it has. Despite only being released a little over two-weeks ago, IT is already closing in on $500 million and has received rave reviews, and I know many people who have returned to the theater multiple times to witness Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) strike terror in the hearts of the children of Derry. With a second installment now a sure thing, New Line Cinema has carved out a release date for the now much-anticipated sequel.

IT: CHAPTER TWO, or whatever it winds up being called, will hit theaters on September 6, 2019. The sequel will introduce us to the now adult members of the Losers Club as they return to Derry twenty-seven years after first defeating Pennywise in order to put an end to his reign of terror once and for all. Although the sequel will be set in the present day, the young stars of the first film will still have a part to play as they'll turn up in the memories of their adult selves. Andy Muschietti previously said that "On the second movie, that dialogue between timelines will be more present. If we’re telling the story of adults, we are going to have flashbacks that take us back to the ‘80s and inform the story in the present day." These flashbacks will be "an important component in the next film," so Muschietti is hoping to get under way on the sequel sooner rather than later, as the young actors are "growing very fast."

IT is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out our own Eric Waljkuski's review of the film!
