The second trailer for Wally Pfister's Transcendence is just as trippy

Feb. 11, 2014by:

When it came to the first trailer for Wally Pfister's TRANSCENDENCE, I was pleasantly surprised. Ive been kind of letdown by recent sci-fi flicks so it was nice to see something that looked really promising. Whats odd is that I get this weird EVENT HORIZON vibe and Im not sure why. I know some people dont like that movie, but I think its a great sci-fi movie.

The second trailer has some new footage that only makes it even more trippy than the first. Its really the last 20 seconds or so that gets me. See for yourself below.

My mind has been set free.

Synopsis:

Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeedto be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and friend Max, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Wills thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for powerto what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

TRANSCENDENCE starring Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Morgan Freeman hits theaters on April 17, 2014.

I gotta stop watching long trailers

I don't know, the concept is good enough

but Is anyone else sick of trailers feeling like a 2 and a half highlight reel of the movie? Going in I already know that he's s scientist, he gets shot, they have a moral decision, he gets turned into a computer, something something rebellion, something something he goes crazy with power. I already know what to expect. I feel like I may have enjoyed the movie more with a 30 second trailer that pretty much says 'a guy gets turned into a computer and

HAL: "I Can feel it. I can feeeel it!"
I want to like this movie, but something makes me feel that it will flop.

this looks like one of those 80's "techno thrillers" Not feeling it. And like all 80's techno thrillers, you gotta love cheese. Comes off mighty outdated even before release.

Really looks interesting... feel as if the ending of the trailer shows too much though, like thats the climax of the movie. In any case, looking forward to this.

looks interesting. Reminds me a bit of the lawn mower man. But lets be thankful its not another pointless remake.

I think it looks great, but I feel like they showed too much. I'm hoping they have a few tricks up there sleeves that theyre just misguiding me into thinking I know what might happen.

Looks cool

I'm guessing the floating stuff is nanotechnology. It would be nice if more movies utilized the idea of nanotechnology. The entire plot is pretty evident from this trailer but it looks cool nonetheless. I'm guessing Depp's old friends team up with RIFT to take out Depp.

Really liking how this looks so far. The clean, almost clinical lensing style of Wally Pfister works really well for the sleek, pared-down cyber punk feel this seems to be going for. That's a great cast too and it's always interesting to see stories where an idealistic protagonist slowly starts slipping and straying from the path he thought he was going to stick to.

lensing style? Seriously? You mean cinematography?

Sorry for being a jerk, but "lensing" is just a made up bullshit word a Variety writer created to sound like a Hollywood insider.

aside from the floating stuff at the end

this looks way too much like a Terminator movie... almost like Wally Pfister is remaking T3: Rise of the Machines actually lol. We even have our Sarah Connor at :40 seconds in the trailer trying to destroy technology before it takes over the world/destroys the human race. And then what looks like actual evil robots/Terminators later in the trailer...
