The teaser for The Europa Report hints that Sharlto Copley may be in for some crazy outer space shenanigans

Nov. 12, 2012by: Alex Maidy

I like my science fiction claustrophobic and unsettling. Give me movies like ALIEN, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, SUNSHINE or MOON and I will be a happy camper. That is the reason why I am greatly anticipating Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY and Sebastian Cordero's THE EUROPA REPORT.

Starring Sharlto Copley, THE EUROPA REPORT looks like a beautifully shot movie. I am sure the imagery from this teaser is NASA footage, but any space video leaves me in awe. We only catch fleeting, found footage-esque images here, but they certainly whet the appetite for more.

Plot: A group of astronauts, handpicked from around the world, make the arduous journey to Jupiter’s frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival…

Directed by Sebastian Cordero from a screenplay by Philip Gelatt (THE BLEEDING), THE EUROPA REPORT stars Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Christian Camargo, Karolina Wydra, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., and Anamaria Marinca.

Expect to hear more about the movie as we approach film festival season in 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Am I the only one who liked SUNSHINE? How about EVENT HORIZON?

Sunshine was fucking amazing despite it's, out of no where horror turn.

The only thing I facepalmed was the scene where Harvey instantly freezes and shatters apart when he's sucked into space. That doesn't happen when you're sucked into space.

Sunshine is one of my all time fav films, despite the clumsy 3rd act.

Looks interesting. If it's anywhere in the vein of Sunshine or Moon then I'm in.

???

I'm not too sure what to think based on the teaser trailer, but I do like the cast. I also enjoyed Sunshine and Event Horizon.

I'd never heard of this project (I don't think), but I do like intelligent science-fiction, and the casting of Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, and Isaiah Whitlock Jr. is enticing, as I think all those actors could stand to get more work.

And yes, I too enjoyed Sunshine.
