The teaser poster for Insidious: Chapter 3 is creepy using only text

A lot of movies need imagery to sell that they are scary while others can get by on an iconic reference to other films in their franchise. But, for INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3, as they explore a different side to the mythology started in the first two movies, they are able to accomplish this using only text.

With James Wan off directing some indie flick called FAST AND FURIOUS 7, series screenwriter Leigh Whannell has stepped in to helm the third film. But, how do you sell the fact that stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson are being replaced by Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott? Sell the fear.

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. A twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further.

Using only text, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 manages to tease the horror the film has in store by implanting some truly creepy imagery in your head. Honestly, this may be one of the most effective teaser posters I have seen in quite a long time. No blood, no gore, nothing inappropriate or SAW-like about this. Just good old-fashioned suggestion.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 will terrify audiences next summer when it hits screens on May 29, 2015.
