The theme to Skyfall will be sung by...

Sep. 12, 2012by:

There are certain things that one hears and thinks JAMES BOND. Whether it be quotes from the movie ("Shaken, not stirred.") or his gadgets (Walther PPK, Aston Martin), you instantly associate them with 007. But, aside from the classic John Barry score, there is the theme song. Whether it be Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, or any of the other two dozen singers who have contributed title songs over the years, everyone identifies the film series with the music and ornate opening title sequences.

During Daniel Craig's tenure, he has had two lackluster themes. For CASINO ROYALE, Chris Cornell lent a boring rock anthem that paled in comparison to the movie. For QUANTUM OF SOLACE, Jack White and Alicia Keys offered a better Bond song, but nothing that aspired to the classics of the Connery and Moore films. That trend looks to be broken for SKYFALL.

Adele has been spotted at Abbey Road studios recently and speculation has the Grammy winner as the voice we will always associate with SKYFALL. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the fact that Thomas Newman is currently scoring the film at the studios makes it seem likely. With SKYFALL scheduled to open in mere months, this seems pretty late in the game to be learning about the theme singer, but it is definitely a good choice if it turns out to be true.

Adele has that classic voice that sounds both contemporary as well as retro. The moment I heard her for the first time I thought of James Bond. We can likely expect to hear the track from Adele or whoever it may be before SKYFALL opens on November 9th.

Extra Tidbit: Thom Yorke from Radiohead would also make a hell of a choice for a Bond theme song singer.

heh

I actually liked the Casino Royal intro. Nothing will ever be better then Live and Let Die's intro of the same name, imo.

I liked You Know My Name & Another Way To Die...

I mean nothing compares to Live And Let Die, but yeah...
Y'know who I'd like to see do a Bond theme?
Steve.
Perry.

Chris Cornell??

I have to disagree, I thought "You Know My Name" was perfect for Craig's Bond. It led up perfectly to Craig saying the iconic (if somewhat forced) line at the very end: "The name's Bond...James Bond" Everything about the song, including the great graphics that went along with it, hearkened back to the golden age of Bond movies. As for Adele, never been her biggest fan, but I'll reserve judgement until I hear it for myself

I loved You Know My Name. It was aggressive, passionate, somewhat sexy even, and absolutely befitting of Craig's Bond. Another Way to Die on the other hand was terrible. I'm really looking forward to hearing what Adele brings to the table, she's a truly gifted singer and I hope she gets a great song to sing.

If it's true, her pipes will be a great fit. By the way, You Know My Name is one of my favorite Bond themes. The Alicia Keys/Jack White one was pretty awful (and certainly not better than Cornell's) and for me ranks just above Madonna's, which was the biggest stinker I've ever heard.

I'm with a majority of people who really enjoyed "You Know My Name" it was loud, adventurous and totally set up Daniel Craig's Bond. "Another Way to Die" would have been decent had either Jack White or Alicia Keyes decided to sing it solo, together that just sounded like a big mess, they even overlap each others vocals for the chorus instead of harmonizing. Adele is okay but I hope she brings the goods instead of coming up with a somber "Somebody Like You" song. BTW, this news was reported a

You know my name was a kickass song. Jack White + Alicia Keys was pretty meh. Adelle would be great
TIDBIT: If Thom Yorke was in charge of a Bond song half the theater would slice their wrists. His music is so depressing.

What an utterly mad opinion. Cornell's is genuinely cracking, whilst the Alice/Jack White one is catchy, but not brilliant, certainly not as good as Cornell's, let alone better. Now Alicia on her own could've knocked out an old school diva classic worthy of Bond, it's a shame that didn't happen.

I was shocked that, whilst obviously not AS good as the original, Nicole Scherzinger did a cracking job of modernizing the Goldeneye theme for the new game.

You Know My Name was a great song for Casino Royale, the lyrics and energy fitting the story perfectly. Another Way to Die was shit: rambling, meaningless lyrics accompanied what sounded like a cat experiencing an agonisingly slow death.

As for Adele, I recognise that she's a very talented writer, but her voice irritates the hell out of me. Actually, I can't stand her voice. Shame they couldn't bring back Shirley Bassey, especially with it being the big anniversary year.

yeah what the hell, Cornell's You Know My Name

was FANTASTIC!

this is an interesting choice, but as we all know it doesn't come down to the ARTIST or their talent, it comes down to the SONG (as we unfortunately experienced when the great Jack White joined forces with Alicia Keys for the last theme)

First Goodfellas on the Unpopular Opinion then Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" is boring? That was the perfect theme song to begin Craig's take on Bond and describe all the themes of Casino Royale! What'd you eat today?!

BTW I think Adele is a perfect choice. Skyfall is gonna rock

Casino Royale's opening was amazing! The song mixed with the animation is one of my favorite Bond beginnings. I think Adele has a voice to pull it off.

Tidbit. my favorite bond opening is Casino Royale or Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Yeah thats right listen to it. ita sooo Bond.

First Alex Maidy talked shit on The Avengers, today there is an Unpopular Opinion on Goodfellas and he dissed Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" I hate to wish a firing on anyone (especially in the current economic climate) but maybe, just maybe, Alex Maidy is not a good fit for this site. He's yet to say anything remotely jobloish.

...Huh.

I was half-expecting them to go with Noel Gallagher, but given that I don't really have an opinion on Adele, I'll hold judgement until I hear it. Regardless, at least they finally went back to a UK artist for this one. Nothing against Americans or American musicians, but one of the biggest British icons in pop culture history deserves to have a British singer for the 50th anniversary of the series.

I don't know but IMO Adele seems like a safe choice. She's a hot commodity right now. She has an amazing, classical type of voice but someone along the lines of Thom Yorke has a sense of risk in it. The choice of Cornell was a risk because he didn't seem like a musician suited for a Bond film but it worked. If they went truly classical Bond mode, why didn't they choose Michael Bubl. I was opposed to this at first as I didn't think Adele was a good fit for the Bond series. But she has the voice. She has a very soulful voice that I think can deliver the kind of smokey texture a Bond theme needs. I've actually enjoyed the two previous Bond themes, particularly the Quantum theme. No, it's not really a classic, but as far as a good song goes, it's about the best theme they've have in the past 20 years, as I was never fond of any of the 90's themes, even Tina Turner's Goldeneye.

I don't think it's a bad choice but it wouldn't have been mine. Two rock songs for Daniel Craig's bond flicks and then Adele. Stick with the genre. People keep saying Muse which wouldn't be bad either. Better than Adele. But I Think The Arctic Monkeys could make a bond song their bitch. They've got my vote. Maybe in a future bond film.

Wow. Can't believe I'm reading ANY negative comments about Adele. Sure, mainstream radio got ahold of her songs & wore them the hell out, but she is PHENOMENAL talent. Her voice would lend to such an old-school Bond sound. It'll be good, trust me. My 2nd choice would be Lana Del Ray.

Are you on crack...!

Cornell's song was epic. IMO in the lines of a modern day Live and Let Die (Cornell idolizes McCartney). The only thing better would be to have him back rockin' it with Soundgarden, but they already had a track in Avengers. Although Adele is the obvious choice (but I think she sings like she's garggling a mouthful of rusty nails), Radiohead would be more of a liking to my personal genre (not that anyone cares) and clearly worthy given Tom's recent work in films. If I had a choice though, and
